You've played 97 games, mostly blitz or speed. Your rating is probably an accurate reflection of your skill level.
Stuck at a low level????????/

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I made an account here with zero chess knowledge whatsoever. I was about 900 whatever when I started. I learned the basics the hard way, the same with draws, en passent whatever.
Then comes the;
OMG 1000!
Holy smokes 1100!
What the, 1200!?
Seriously, 1300!?
What on earth <insert rating>!?
...(you get the idea)
Just don't stop playing and it will naturally increase, I promise.

Actually I have faced some very strong 1100+ players in bullet. They had standard ranking of over 1900+. I think they suffer from bad internet like me.
However, I guess the same can be said for me lol. I don't play bullet much. My ranking is like 1300. It should be much higher but I have hard time moving my mouse so fast. An if I play 1-0 time control. I lose on time 99% of the time. I got bad internet connection. I been playing some 2-1 games and I been getting it up. I was ranked 1000.
Its not really the position that is difficult its more the timing itself(coupled with bad net issues). Like you can get time whored in bullet chess. Which doesn't happen in other time controls as much. I end up in a completely winning position losing on time lol.

Wow, thanks for the thoughtful responses. I really don't play much on here anymore because I'm busy with other things. Hurray for chess dot com =)
1000-1200 players are surprisingly strong.
FM Matty Perrine has a surprisingly rough time beating some of them in his videoblog, and I actually find 1150-1250 players harder to beat in blitz than 1300-1400s. (1300s-1400s have MUCH better openings, but if you take 'em out of book, they often blunder since they're so used to playing 'book'like moves, whereas 1150s-1250s rarely have much book, but play hard over the board.)

I'm sorry not trying to be mean but there is no way you are near 1500 level. These games were played only 2 weeks ago , players above 1000 very rarely get mated in 6 moves in a 15m game or move their bishop around several timesneglecting development and even placing a bishop onto its back rank again when Bc4 could have been played instead. Focus less on the rating you should have and more on improving if you want to see a different number . If you post a game plenty of people will help you analyze it . "2000 players are not all that great" , you will give them more credit once you become better trust me .

my blitz / bullet level is significantly below my standard - im surprised at how hard i have to play to win at the blitz games, even the 10 minute games

I was testing a chess AI algorithm during these games.

Engine assistance, even if pathetic, is not allowed.

I was using the logic not an actual application, not that it is any of your business.
I see. Sounds OK, as long as you're doing the calculations and coming up with the moves by yourself.
And it's the business of anyone who cares to respond to Post #12. (This IS a public thread, right?)

If I wanted to cheat, that is my own private issue that nobody could stop. Cheating is a childilsh attempt to appear greater than one really is. I privately believe that cheating ruins the fun in a game, however, cheating in a chess game using a chess AI is a completesy different thing. Everyone is paranoid that someone is using the computer because nobody can beat them, but if that were so, what would be the point? To say that you used a cmputer program that you did not make to beat everyone? Who cares, nobody, not even you, because we already know computers beat everyone, even chess masters, which I certainsy am not.
And why does it matter if I play crappy at chess? I like chess, it is fun and challenging, isn't that enough? Why put me down if I make a blunder? Am I not allowed that? It shouldn't matter to you how or what I do. If I were to be banned from this website for cheating, do you really think you could stop me from coming back somehow? I figured out how to change the mac addressess of my equipment, it is very easy. I am a hacker by nature, I enjoy toying with things. But that dosn't mean I am going to go hack things just because I can. Nor does it mean that I want to cheat at chess. I am very offended to be accused of cheating, and am half tempted to simply never come back to chess dot com again. However, I know that it is coming from childish babies who think they run the world because they can ban People from a website if they are suspected of cheating.

For the record, I couldn't care less who or how many people cheat here. I couldn't care less whether you cheat here or not. Okey dokey?
Just from personal experience, I had no idea what castling was before joining. I originally played a lot of 15|10 and then switched to blitz. I painstakingly and slowly moved from a 700 to 900 rating in blitz. I then returned just recently to 15|10 and went on a winning spree to increase my rating by 150 points shortly in 15|10. You can study games and learn tactics, but at low levels playing is the most helpful. Very slow improvement is still improvment.
Also I played against a player who had a 400 something blitz rating. He played an excellent opening and played well afterward. But he missed easy mate threats and the ideas of disovered checks and sacrifices to make forks and pins. This knowledge allows people to bridge the gap from 1000 to 1500. As BB-gum stated, the difference is exploiting and knowing weaknesses. This allows a weaker player to destroy a position of someone who is skilled but does not see a part of the game. Anyhow, good luck with getting past that barrier.
P.S. There is a large skill cap between 1000-1100 rated players since the newest players are around 1200 and then drop rapidly, where some players work there way back up to 1000 and fight to go above.

I mean no offense here but I must say there is a significant rating gap between you and a 1500 lvl http://www.chess.com/livechess/game?id=1201197624 I just glanced over this game in which you dropped multiple pieces and missed a lot of your opponents pieces hanging. If you can avoid these errors you can become a much better player (as a side note most 1500 don't charge a queen out on move 2 and don't trade it a few moves later. Violates several opening codes

Good for you, except I don't care. I play chess for fun. I had fun playing that game, I know I made some mistakes, so did the other guy. I NEVER CLAIMED I WAS RATED 1500!!!! I know I suck at chess alright. Why must you put me down?

Is it just me or am I stuck at 1000 level because most people are pretty good? I don't exactly suck at chess, but I know I am rated higher than this in reality. It seems that there are a ton of 1500 level players stuck at 900-1000 because we keep playing each other. I would like to play someone rated 2000, because I think it would be fun, and very surprising when the lower level people win.
I sometimes watch the 2000 level players play, and they do not seem all that great. Is there anyone else who feels this way?

I talked to the police a little while ago, they left in quite a hurry, check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoYF5BvUvHo
