I want to gift a friend (who is a big chess buff) on his bday which is coming up in 6 days. I was thinking of gifting him a book that summarizes the best tactics and strategies used but is also packed with anecdotes and is a fun as well as an informative read. To give you a better idea about him, his rating on this app is around 1350 so he isn’t a beginner in any way and so I need a book that will appeal to him intellectually at his level and help him better his skills. Some of his favourite players that I am able to remember are: Ian Nepomniachtchi (Current), Vishy Anand, Gary Kasparov...Please help me if possible and asap. I really want him to feel like he learnt something new and valuable and at the same time enjoyed reading it just as much. A quick response would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance :)

Pandolfini’ Ultimate Guide to Chess is a great read, and Modern Chess Openings is great on sharpening your repertoire of openings.

However, hands down the most helpful book for me has been The Ultimate Chess Puzzle Book. It starts with easy tactics and really gets into depth with the puzzles, and it’s still interactive and fun to read . I am around your friend’s level, so hopefully it will help him too! Congrats for being a good friend to him, and to risk being repetitive I truly hope the book helps him.
