I have 700 bullet rating and 1800 + tactics rating with 84% pass rate. I suck so much at bullet that I wanted to bullet. I even brought a ipad so that I would have a speed advantage over them , but they are still kicking my ass.i have no place to hide my face and I wanted to ran away from them.i am thinking of participating in a otb tournament, to hide my face from shame that I received at bullet but I fear to get my ass get kicked at otb.nothing seems to help me no book , no fast internet connection, no illegal drugs that I used before to increase my past measly tactics rating.i am finish . no life exist on me anymore. I came here in the forum for search of divine peace but the stupid troll like Teichmann70 are kicking my ass.i am leaving forum forever.Bye
Super inflated tactic ratings
Dont go dude, i can help you.
First of all there is NO shame in losing and getting your A$$ kicked. We are human, prone to aberration and cannot but help make mistakes. Its both irrational and illogical therefore to beat ourselves up over our losses, they are inevitable. Thing is to try to learn from them. As for trolls, what they say is not a reflection of you, but of them. Its a room full of mirrors, honestly, thats all the forum is! a huge big room full of mirrors!
With a tactic rating of 1800 and an 84 percent pass rate you will surely be giving some lessons OTB. Its difficult for chess players to be happy though, everyone really is out to get you, so much stress and tension.
I sometimes think of tactics as training boxing by punching a bag with heavy power-shots, landing beautiful precise combinations, that will down the opponent when the opportunity presents itself. But in chess, as in boxing, as in life, opponents do not just stand there waiting to be hit... they set up their own shots (to varying skill levels) and fight back.
In games nobody is going to say "hey, there's a tactic here!" so someone who is capable of decent calculation and seeing quite complex tactical ideas can miss the most trivial shot in a real game (I know from experience)
I think the tactics rating here on chess.com are a little bit inflated. And it's also true what mariosuperlative says. I have 1800 on tactics but my blitz rating is stuck at 1200. Sometimes I miss basic tactics when I'm playing a real game.
Oftentimes when doing tactics here I look so far ahead for a brilliant win that I miss a very simple one. This is why I miss tactics usually.
When you KNOW a forcing combination will work, all you have to do is look for something that looks threatening, keeps the initiative, etc. Even if you didn't calculate it fully, you can play it with confidence in a tactical puzzle.
In a real game you can sacrifice a knight, give a check, and.... and now you're down a knight for no reason ![]()
Also in a real game you're often distracted by everything else that's going on, so you can forget to look deeply at forcing sequences.

For me it's the opposite way around; I don't do very well in tactics due to time constraints and missing simpler opportunities whereas in Daily chess I often perform really well against higher rated competition. In Blitz some of my wins finish off really nicely as well.
Yeah, I'm not inflated in my tactics either (at least, some people I've seen rated a lot lower have TT a lot higher than me).
If you don't have a feel for those tricks (basically being good at guessing with moves that look like a tactic), that's good, you're using TT properly ![]()

I usually miss the ones where there's more than one winning option, so it's a matter of deciding which one is best. For example, in a mate in 3 problem I found another mate in 3 but I got incorrect because I did not find the exact one they were looking for. Other times when the Queen can checkmate there are multiple Queen moves that result in immediate checkmate, but only one of them is considered correct.
A good indicator to show if a person is using tactic trainer properly is their pass rate.
As soon as a person can note all the elements in a puzzle before the see the solution, they know there on the right track.

That is potty talk. If such tactic puzzles existed in TT, there would be an angry mob in the comment box petitioning for it's removal months back.
I have a tactics rating a lot higher than my other ratings. I guess it's just different than playing. When I do tactics I know something is there. I stare at the puzzle without pressure until I see the solution. Even then I'm only right half of the time. When I play a game there could be a puzzle like scenario but I don't always see it. A lot of times I'm too busy looking for positional stuff, pawn majorities, weak squares that kind of thing. I'm also way better at calculating when I'm not on the game clock. Ever review and old game of yours and see a ton of better moves you missed? I guess I'm just better when not under pressure. Sometimes I even like studying, watching videos and doing tactics more than playing.

Nah, it just means that they're following the computer-recommended moves, which is expected. Most of the tactics don't even have that problem, so I'm not complaining. In my case my tactics rating is trailing my Daily rating by a huge margin.

An engine evaluates 5 differrent mate in 3 lines as equal. If they were using an engine in such a problem, they would have a 1/5 chance to pass making the puzzle invalid and provoking anger.
What I am telling you is that you are probably wrongly accusing TT puzzles for prefering some mate in 3 over alternate mate in 3s ect.

In those puzzles where you think you've found an alternative line, look again and you will probably find that your solution doesn't actually work. Read the comments and you'll see that almost invariably someone else tried the same thing, and others will point out what they overlooked.
Anyway, besides the fact that in a tactics puzzle, you know there is a tactic in there somewhere, another thing to remember is that the rating number is relative to the pool that it is rating against. Your tactics rating is vs. the pool of tactics problems, while the game ratings is vs. other players. The two may trend together, but aren't equal.

very interesting because I always assumed that a players tactical rating was a good indication of his or her chess ability, this probably goes some way to explain why someone with a tactics rating of 2200 doesn't play like a 2200 rated player.

How come some players have in my opinion super inflated tactic ratings? I was playing a player roughly rated the same as me (1700-1800) overall but with a tactic rating of 2200, gulp! Now I do not dispute the rating but during the game this tactical prowess did not become manifest. I have a measly tactic rating of 1600, 1700 on a good day, I have always had a measly tactic rating of 1600-1700 not just on this site but on other sites as well. How do they do it ? and also what does this thing prove? surely such a tactic rating should manifest itself in games? if not what is the point of having it?
