Sveshnikov siclian

i saw a chess book at the library which called this opening the Svenishkov Sicilian but another chess book on the shelf said it is called the Pelikan.

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e5 6.Ndb5 d6

 If this opening is named after a bird, is it any good because pelicans always fly away from people at the beach.  just saying.

i might write a letter to the author or publisher to let them know that pelican is spelled with a c and not a k.  just saying.

why does it make it with different names ?

also some person at a chess club told me that is actually called by another name called Kalashnikov sicilian.  i would get confused try to remember all these names.

"Svenishkov Sicilian but another chess book on the shelf said it is called the Pelikan"
++Some called it also Lasker.

"If this opening is named after a bird" ++ It is not, it is named after a player: Pelikan

"why does it make it with different names ?"

It was called Lasker because Lasker played it.

It is now called Sveshnikov, because Sveshnikov played it and analysed it.

"called Kalashnikov sicilian" ++ No, Kalashnikov is 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 e5

"confused try to remember all these names" ++ There is no need to remember names.
'That what we call a rose would smell as sweet called by any other name.'

I play a similar system that i like more where the pawn is on e6 instead of e5 everything else the same with the advantage that when you play like this they sometimes don't realize the main move is 6 Ndb5 because you don't hit the knight and play all sorts of bad bishop moves instead and when they do play 6 Ndb5 everything other than Bf4 is not good also you have a few side line choices instead of 6 d6.  You don't need to know all the names as long as you understand why they make the moves what the plan is.

That move order is sometimes used to reach the same position by transposition
1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 e6 3 d4 cxd4 4 Nxd4 Nf6 5 Nc3 Nc6 6 Ndb5 d6 7 Bf4 e5 8 Bg5

Yea that line was in the course I study maybe if i get good enough ill get to play it sadly 9/10 players at 1600ish rating make a bad bishop move on turn 6 and a few of the times they did play the right move i played the cobra instead of d6 ill try and get this line the next time i get here.

It is not a matter of right and wrong. 6 Nxc6, 6 Be2 are good moves too.
Fischer even played the same position a tempo down.

Those moves are ok and Nxc6 does get played a lot and so does be2 but they also do thing like play bd3 bc4 even bb5 and let me play bb4 right away surprisingly often Bf4 doesn't seem so bad but also gets played alot.  Also a lot of the guys who play 6Be2 play weird stuff like taking the knight on c6 late like they don't know the queen d3 system they are just making moves.  I'm sure if i was higher rating they would play better moves.  I was just surprised as the guy in the videos i learned the strategy from acted like you would face 6Nbd5 most the time and almost no one plays it in my experience always a bishop move or knight takes and half the time its a weird bishop move.

That is the problem with opening study.
That which you study does not happen.
When it finally happens, you will have forgotten.
