Tactical Trainer: 20 out of 20

I have set a personal goal to get 20 out of 20 correct on TT. So far, 8 out of 10 has been my best.

Any suggestions or comments?

It would be especially nice to hear from BTBoy who had hit over 3,000, as I recall.

8 out of 10!  Good for you!

Is this with the timer?

I've gone to 11 in a row.  I was going super speed trying to form patterns, but now am slowing down, and trying to visualize the follow up, since I often "hope chess" the first move without seeing the second or third.

I receive lots of good advice here.

Yes, with the timer.

This is a blitz timer. Often I can get a solution in 10 sec when the average may be 50 sec. So I can be speedy.

Yet sometimes, even though I get the right answer, there is a penalty for not getting it quickly.

I, too, am attempting pattern recognition and almost instantaneous moves. But I find that many of the puzzles are ornery and require depth of thinking, all the while the clock is ticking.

Sure it is easy to see a fork, pin, check, etc. But when there is a several move combination, I don't know about you, but I need to ponder a bit.

I might have to lower my goal. 20 out of 20 seems out of reach, not only for me but for some/most/all?

But there is always hope...along with a great deal of sweat equity.

Now, if I can just eke out 10 for 10. Yes! A good start...my new goal.

I'm proud to say that I did manage 20 out of 20. Took me a few tries though. I try to work everything out before I play my first move rather than just guessing my way through. Sometimes I have to go with my instinct though as some puzzles are too long to calculate to the end, at least for me.

Wow! How inspiring. It gives me hope. Smile

Note to self:

Still can't do better than 8 out of 10.

Too, there is the pressure from the blitz clock and I am not a blitz player. Oh, sure, I can get some correct within 10 seconds when there is 50 seconds allowed. Then there are others where it takes me 50 seconds when only 10 is allowed.

On top of which, there are those problems which are inspired by the devil. You can avoid the false bait, win a Q and still get shot down.

It's all madness. And, in the end, is any of this putting food on the table?
