Hi guys!

I had reached 4100 rating in tactics a month back. That time, the points used to increase 1. 1. 1. 1. 1, Even on 100%

Now, after a month I opened tactics trainer with a rating of about 4080. Since then, every puzzle I solve, I am getting 4-7+ points, while before maximum to maximum i would get 2-3.

It's amazing, this change! Did something happen which I missed?

This is from one of the developers in a different thread.

Let's start by talking about tactics scoring.

Based on your feedback, we know people find it demoralizing to gain so little and lose so much, based upon getting Tactics puzzles right and wrong. Of course, the main culprit here is **TIME**. You earn less for your hard-won successes because you took “too long.”

To allow more reward for thinking carefully about the solutions to each puzzle, we have tweaked the scoring logic: Time is now less important, and the base amount you can gain (or lose!) from a given correct solution has been increased.

I confirmed the less time penalty and the previous time penalty was absolutely ridiculous, sometimes penalizing you for solving a 3-move problem because you didn't do it in 7 seconds - and that's no exaggeration!!!

I have rarely been doing problems here at chess.com because the algorithm was ridiculous. But I just solved a 3-move problem

I just did a problem, a 3-mover that involved a back-rank attack, then a sacrifice, then a discovered attack. (I always review the TAGS (tactics involved) to make sure I saw all that was going on and so I can identify those that I'm not identifying quickly) I took my time, 2:08 to solve it, the Tactics Trainer shows a Target Time of 0:32 and I got 4 points. Amazing!

If this is how the Tactics Trainer works consistently, I'll be doing more problems here.

Good to know. Helps explain why my increase in tactics hasn't translated to anything in games.
