I find it tough to apply what I learn into games. Also, you know that there is a tactic when doingtactics trainer, in live chess you've to find something that may or may not exist. Plus there is more to chess than just tactics, maybe your rotten at other parts of the game :)
tactics rating vs. live rating...is this normal???
It may be that the problems are rated automatically by who is getting them right and wrong and start with a provisional rating just like a player would. I know some sites do it this way, the problem "beating" the user and it gains a few points as if it were a game, if you get the problem right then the problem loses some points. Meaning a lot of beginners doing TT will inflate the ratings.
Or it could be what Maradonna said -- the tactics books that try to assign a rating with a test at the end have always rated me too high. Much more practical is catching 99% of the small stuff in a real game... that's what helps your "real" rating in my opinion. In the book you solve a mate in 8 after 30 minutes and it thinks you're a master :)
Tactics rating: 2061
Live rating: 1498/1458
600 pts of disparity??? I am getting better at tactics everyday, yet my live rating has been gradually decreasing, what gives??
