Tactics Trainer

I know this topic has been discussed pretty much but I can't seem to find the answer to my question.  Most of the questions have been why would you get a negative score for correct answers, etc.  My question is, why for the most part, do I get -7 or (more often) -9 when I do not answer correctly yet when I do answer correctly, I get minimal increase.

NOTE:  I do understand that taking too much time decreases your increment but when you answer in 40 seconds and get 3 points, and would have been penalized 7-9 points if you get it wrong, I am confused.  Yes, you do have a time limit when playing an actual game but in a standard game, you would most likely get at least a minute a move.

Anyway, this isn't a big deal, more out of curiousity.  I am enjoying myself so the rating is secondary.

Enjoy everyone!

The time does play a big factor and especially for single move solutions, I think the software considers 40 seconds to be quite a long time. Also, if you go to the tactics trainer on the website, you can see the list of tactics you have done. And from there you can see the time it took you to do each one, how many of the moves you got correct, and the rating of the puzzle. It could be that it's giving you low-rated puzzles. But most likely it's the amount of time you're taking.

Thanks!

I've come to the conclusion I will never excel at these.  I always think there's a trick and even though the answer is simple, I  don't expect it to be an take time to look for something else and then when I make that simple move and it's right, I took too long and only get 1 point.  I also look for more than one move.  I will get tactics that are 3-4 moves and expect them to all be like that.  I see the right move many times, but don't make it right away looking for the other 2-3 moves that aren't there.

Oh well, it is helping my playing so I guess that's something!

Enjoy!

I don't remember who suggested ChessTempo.com, but whoever it was, thanks!!  I find it MUCH better than the Tactics Trainer here.
