At your level, the book 'Understanding Chess Tactics' by Martin Weteschnik will help you greatly.

Edit: There is also software called CT-ART v. 3 which is good.

I agree. I also bought 'Understanding Chess Tactics' and it really opened my eyes on how to spot tactics. Now I look for things that I might have missed before. There aren't that many exercises in that book though. I still miss a good puzzle/combinations exercise book to go along with Weteschnik's book.

 (love the name.) a really good chess puzzle/combinations book is 'The Ultimate Chess Puzzle Book' by John Emms.
