Takeback function in live games - Your opinion

On another site there is a takeback function in live games. When people make mongo moves they can request opponent that a move be reversed so they can make new move.

The only time I see that this is good is if one obviously misclick. E.g. when castling, one moves only the king one square. That is an obvious mistake.

But people request takeback all the time. I say no, because uncle Jalavan says part of the game is to visualise and think before moving. If you move your queen into a trap, you should have calculated that before moving.

Yet people insist on takeback. Request after request, does not take no for answer. And when they do not get their takeback, they resign.

What do you think about takeback function? I think it is bullshit because it is misused.

And in FIDE rules: When piece is moved, it is moved. No takeback!

I would say your uncle may not neccisarily be a bad player- this advice was pretty good.

I think you underestimate uncle Jalavans strength. Not only has he figured out how to move two pawns at once, he has also mastered the two knight and king vs. king forced checkmate. Surpassing the 5000 mark for rating will do that. It is interesting though this sudden concern for FIDE rules.

i roughly agree with you, but if I remember right, i saw the takeback option in the correspondence chess mode (by clicking on the circular options icon that appears by moving the mouse, on an already started game )

I wrote a 2-player chess app and have thought about take backs from a learning-the-game angle. Take backs seem useful for learning where you can immediately correct a mistake and continue the game (get a feel for a better position); it's also useful in creating a level playing field by giving the weaker player a certain # of take backs; it is a very simple option to add to the game and gives flexibility. So I added take back feature. It is surprisingly little used!
