Tatics Complaints

I hate that the tactics will "wrong" when you are close. I think that they should give you a completed symbol if you have 80 percent or more. It is very annoying when you have one more move then you mess up and its a very hard 7 move puzzle. Also, when I was doing tactics and  i got message from @Noahisabeast9001 saying that he found that had 6 percent pass rate. Another time, he had a 4 percent pass rate. And these puzzles weren't new so, I want the tactics to more easy to actually complete because if there's a 4 percent pass rate and you lose points I think you would be annoyed, because i would be going berserk! I would like Chess.com members to read this! Listen to this complaint!

If you're referring to the 7 move tactic, you did yesterday?

You spent 1 second on the first move, and it was wrong.  1 second.

Wanting credit for playing a move "almost" as good is playing hope chess.  And that is not how you improve.  You dont play a move, and "hope" your opponent doesnt see the best reply.  Just like you dont play a move that isnt the best, and "hope" it still works.

I've only had 1 7 move tactic and I had it in November. I only solved 4 moves out of seven.

That's not the right one. I said it was in November.

Your initial post does not state it was in November.

If you had a 7 move tactic in November, and again in December.  You have not had just one.

Based on what i have seen from your tactics.  Its the usual story.  You're moving to fast.

Honestly...as long as you're more concerned about the score, than the learning?  Improvement will be difficult.

I know, I suck at tactic, just because i go fast. I wish I could be good at them and just solve them in 10 seconds. sad.png

Speed will come with improvement.  You first need to get past the score, and the "I only got 1 point..." thing that people complain about here.  If a tactic takes you 10 minutes to solve, and all you get is 1 online point?  The knowledge, and tactical pattern you learned is still light years better than the 15 points yo would gain.

It is true that in some positions, more than 1 position can win material/win the game. In some of those positions, you even get credit for that here.

However, one of the BIG points to doing tactics puzzles is learning to calculate accurately, not "almost" accurately.

At the end of the day, everyone labors under the same restrictions. And the ratings do a good job of distinguishing who is good at it and who is not. They could drop the accuracy requirement in some more situations, but that would just introduce noise into the ratings.

What is interesting to me is how close my ratings are here and at chesstempo with tactics. I'm almost if not always higher rated at chesstempo, but not by much.

@IMBacon OK Man! Thank you for the advice. I hope I can get better at tactics! I just want to be known on the website for something so i thought tactics because I have the platinum membership and it only allows 10 lessons per day and my lessons are the best and i can't do them much. I think Tactics will be easier for me to get known on Chess.com. That's kinda what i want to be... Famous on a website or in real life.

If you're doing this for any reason other than yourself, you're doing this for the wrong reason.

With Tactics...Always look for Forcing Moves: Checks, Captures, Threats.  IN that order.

You need to set that position up on a real board, with real pieces.

Look at all Forcing Moves.

@madratter7 I know. It's just that people get so close and then it goes into the WRONG section of your tactics.

I don't know...is it?

You need to be sure.

Let me put your comment: "I hate that the tactics will "wrong" when you are close." into context.

You work at NASA, and its your job to make sure that the next rover to Mars, lands where it is safe, and a flat surface.  How well do you think telling the higher ups: "Well...I did the math, and computations.  And i think we are close to a good landing spot"

I just looked at your tactics stats. You have done 866 tactics in 2.5 hours. You need to slow WAY down. You are only spending an average of a little over 10 seconds a problem. In other words, you are blitzing the moves out relying on intuition. You might be able to spend that amount of time if you were a grandmaster. You're not. Think the problem through. Move once you know you are right, not once you think you are right.

Of course sometimes you'll be wrong anyway, but that is OK. At least you tried.
