What is the best way to train tactics? Random puzzles or by motif.

I vote for random. Nobody holds up a sign during your game telling you that you have a knight fork on the board.

If you're not familiar with some of the most usual motifs it can be really useful to see similar puzzles one after another.

Well... nobody holds up a sign saying there is a tactic in the position either.

So you're saying, don't do tactics because you're using a tactics set. OK, you've convinced me...

Motiff until you know them pretty well.

1-3 mottifs per session, 15 puzzles per mottif.

Dont forget the whey protein at the end of the session.

Start with a book where they are ordered by motif. When you master the basic motifs, then you can practice yourself with random positions. This way you go from simple to complex.
