Whenever I play chess, I find that I go into  a dream state.     That is I forget about all my  obligations and responsibilities. All that matters  to  me when I play a game  is  pawns , Bishops , Rooks, ETC.   Afterwards, no matter the result of the game , I feel  the  ability to face  another day .   Playing  Chess is  becoming to me  , the only  scenario in life  that makes  total sense to  me.

Chess, like love, like music, has the power to make men happy. - Tarrasch

I'm full-time military which entails slogging through mind-numbing volumes of regulations, policies, and procedures. The degree of bureaucratic overhead is enough to make you want to chew through your own neck to escape the tedium and I say this as someone who actually loves his job and gets to exert a fair amount of creativity.

In order to stay sane I set-up a chessboard next to my desk. The rules is: If you break the threshold of my work area you have to move for whichever side is due to move next.

Usually as soon as a new move has been concluded everyone in the area converges on the board to discuss the ramifications and permutations of the move.

It keeps the mental juices flowing and makes for good game analysis.

Yes I814... that was  the point that I was trying  to make  that you put  so well. When I play this  game I enter  into a sanctuary. While  playing  a game, if I was told  that  the  world   will end  in 30 seconds  ... I would  say..."wait  I have a mate  in 3"
