Well as I started to read thru this thread I became quite worried that it might be a waste of time ( hmmmm ) but then I got to the cartoon posted by NJH. Boy was I glad to see that funny item, saved the whole thread for me  lol.

I was laughing well in advance of that point...I'm concerned that you might not know how to get the most out of your spam, cabadenwurt. Smile

@OP: I make a point to be as polite as possible to all members on this site, regardless of how offensive they may or may not be (to me or to others). I hope you will bear that in mind as you read my criticism of your viewpoint.

You have completed a grand total of 14 games (Online/Live combined) on this site. You give no indication of how many years' chess experience you have. You presented a poorly organized, poorly-thought-out argument of why the fifty-move rule should be abolished. In light of all this, what makes you think that you are qualified to call for a change in the rules of chess?

That wasn't polite at all, it was ****** inflammatory!

I politely Wink disagree. I presented my honest opinions. I always strive for politeness, but I allow myself to be blunt when necessary. The OP's arguments were poorly organized.

I asked him an honest and straightforward question of why he felt he was qualified to call for a change. I did not personally attack him, nor did I say anything with the sole purpose of offending him. If I had, that would have been inflammatory.

I wonder-- Is it possible to be polite while being sanctimonius about one's own politeness? Or is being snarky impolite no matter how cultured the tone and prose?

I've never ever ran into a trouble because of that rule, so I can't personally relate... Sorry!

The "Fifty Move" rule was invented to keep Idiots and Morons from playing into eternity.

good thought, hessianwarrior, and we can add to your post:   or starting forum topics like this one.

Maybe I'll start it RetGuvvie98, do you think it will fly?

I disagree. The 50 move rule is essential. Go to http://turbulence.org/spotlight/thinking/chess.html . Trust me, if you play against the thinking machine, you will probably want that rule back. I was forced to sacrifice a pawn just to continue the game.Frown

If only time were on our side in this matter, we could perhaps ask this question of the God of Snarky:

Well try a Bishop and A knight endgame trying to mate your opponent under 50 moves (Without engine obviously). Then you will understand why the rule exists.
