If there was a seventh piece on the board; how do you see it moving?

My friend and I used to play Using the King as a ninja assassin who could appear at any square on the board to take a piece once per game.  The spontaneous relocation of the king was always interesting.

If there were a 7th piece, where would it start the game?

Would there be a 9th pawn?

Avatar of shango7

No greeny, there would be ten pawns.

Since the board would be bigger,I see a piece moving diagonal for two squares and horizontal for three squares or viceversa starting on white, ending on black, snake like.  Can you see that?

I like xiangqi cannons =D

They jump over any piece on the board (a cannon platform) and hit a target on the other side. The distance to the cannon platform/target makes no differance, as long as both are in a straight line.  If they do not have a cannon platform/target, they move like rooks.  When 2 cannons line up in a row, they can be weapons of mass destruction because they just leapfrog over eachother and switch roles as cannon/cannon platform.

What the arrow is coming out of is the cannon.  What its pointing to is the target.  The faded piece inbetween is the cannon platform.

David Bronstein (and some other gms of his time I think) used to actually differentiate 7 types of pieces, the seventh one being the players themselves.
