Don't play bullet nor blitz. They are bad for your improvement and you don't have enough time to think. Play rapid (preferably 15|10 or longer) and/or daily (preferably 3 days/move or longer), and later when you are 1200+ rapid and/or daily, your bullet and blitz ratings will "magically" increase too. Always blunder check your moves, which means that you should always ask yourself before you move: "Is any of my pieces hanging?" "Can my opponent checkmate me?" "Does my opponent have any tactics?" If the answer to any of these questions is yes, don't move that move. Also, use the CCA (Check, Capture, Attack) method. Look for checks, captures and attacks (threats), which can lead to good tactics. Also do it with your opponent's moves, because that way, you can avoid many surprising tactics. Solve puzzles (you don't need to buy chess.com membership, go to lichess . org, here puzzles are free), analyze your games on your own, then with engine (again on Lichess, chess.com's engine analysis is paywalled). You should also learn basic endgame techniques like how to win/draw K+P vs. K, opposition, zugzwang, learn how to checkmate K+Q vs. K, K+R vs. K. You should also learn some basic openings, which are easy to learn, like the London, the Caro-Kann and the Slav. But, opening principles are much more important than remembering every line. These are the opening principles:
1. Develop your pieces
2. Ensure that your king is safe (by castling, 99% of the time)
3. Don't move the same piece twice
Don't go for opening traps, those are useless for your improvement.
