Computers allowed an escalating contest between prepared lines that turned professional chess into little more than an battle of the opening. Every GM in the world took the approach that to adjust to prepared lines of others meant preparing your own. They've been fighting fire with fire. Along comes Carlsen who, as a matter of course, decides to fight fire with water. I LOVE that we have a champion who knows how to avoid opening prep to such an extent. I don't care if he never uncorks a winning novelty. Give me long struggles in which OTB skill determines the outcome. Huzzah for Magnus!

Every moron in the chess world repeats this, but every decisive game was won in the endgame.

If you  mean every decisive game in this match then you must have responded before reading my entire post. Magnus is a participant in this match..
