Rich, tell you what. Since the FIDE website has a searchable database of its members, what say you give us your real name and we'll search the database to see if you really have a FIDE rating. If, as I'm believe it will, this tests proves you have been lying, you remove the fake FIDE rating from your profile and apologize for lying about it. If your story bears out, those of us who have accused you of misrepresenting the truth will apologize for suggesting you were lying. Sound fair to you?

See my post 95. He definately does not have a fide rating.

Yeah, I read that yesterday. He doesn't seem to have made any changes though, which is why I'm offering him this way out. Perhaps more decent than I need to be, but still...

Why does everyone care about this? It's like you're mocking a mentally handicapped person (no offence, rich).

haha, but no I would even be able  to play chess if I was mentally handicapped.

You could probably move the pieces around semi-coherently.

I like how rich has been ignoring me. That really isn't helping your case.

Well, to bring this thread back on track, I think the chess.com analysis is a great place to start for analysis.  Every engine you run your games through will have some differences, and sometimes Chess.com gives me lines that are more realistic, probably precisely because of it's relative weakness.

My favorite part of Chess.com analysis is when a suggested variation reaches mate and they tell me one side has a decisive advantage.  It makes me laugh every time!

I have to agree, that is an amusing feature.

That, plus rich's deep chess insight and approachable nature, is making this site not only very informative but also very entertaining to say the least....

ah! the thread that keeps on giving, a pleasure to read, every time.

BTW: rich, Who's on first base? Laughing

If you download the open-source program (see http://www.craftychess.com/), you can run the same analysis for more moves than even a platinum membership offers, or just indefinately for some period of time, avoiding horizon problems.

Speaking of which, can anyone recommend a good article detailing how to interpret output from a typical chess engine's analysis feature?

Here is what you do:

Have a friend play you a game, but instead of playing real, you play that Morphy game out, (the one in that opera house.)  Supposedly it is one of the greatest game.  See then what the analysis has to say, once yous are done.  Get back to me and tell me what happened...

Yeah, I've always wondering how modern chess engines would rate some of the classics.  I bet they would find issue with a few of the moves in the Evergreen game.

"Look to your left!"

huge pause

"That person will not succeed in life or might even contact HIV!"

Dramatic pause.

"Look to your right"

No pause

And in an heavy evangelistic voice yell: "That person TOO will not succeed in life or might even contract HIV!!!"

Most analysis engine jerkishness :

"(+6.69) MISTAKE - That was a mistake. Much better was 8. Ng5"

Much better it says but it rates Ng5 as +6.70
