The difference between CPUs when analyzing chess games

Hi guys, I am in the process of building/buying a computer. Haven't decided whether it is a laptop or a desktop yet. But here the question is to those of you who might have tried different computers to analyze your chess games. Generally I am aware that the better the CPU the faster it will analyze to the same depth than a slower one. But has anyone tried to test this on your computer if you have a relatively new powerful computer? For example how deep does it reach in analysis within a given time, or how much time it takes to reach a certain depth.

Currently the most popular processors are intel i5 and i7. I don't know how much difference the ram makes or whether the GPU is ever used as a supplemental processor to analyze games. It would be nice to know how much difference in efficiency there is in analyzing chess between those two CPUs.

Any info on this is appreciated.
