I think it's far from a great magazine but don't think it's as bad as you think it is. For a chess player who's 1800+, it's probably of little use, but most of its customer base is probably below that
The end of Kasparov is near

Anyhow, my whole point was that I think people have been misspelling Walter Brown's name for years. That's all

Who's Walter Browne ? ( & what's he got to do witth Kasparov ?? )

Haha. Not that interested in it and they do Ok for what it is. I think it's mostly aimed at Class C and below. It will never be mistaken for NIC, no matter what they do

It's Brown, not Browne, and he's a fairly well-known chess player here in the U.S. I thought this thread was drifting into misspellings of GMs names and so brought up one I noticed a few years ago

Never heard of him..
What's his connection with Kasparov ? ( I have heard of him ! )
Tried googling Browne & got this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Ernest_Brown
Is that him ?
Aronian - who could be considered his "nemesis" in terms of their lopsided score, even though Lev racked up most of his wins as Magnus was younger and coming up
Carlsen has in all 6 wins and 4 losses against Aronian over the years so it's hardly a lopsided score to Aronian's advantage, even if the latter did slightly better when Carlsen was 15-16 years old.
Um, no. In fact, Aronian won 6 games before Carlsen won his first. He leads in their career meetings 12-5 with 16 draws. Three of those wins and a number of draws have been at non-classical controls.
None of those numbers are anywhere close to be correct. It's 6-4 to Carlsen with classical time controls, if rapid/blitz/blindfold is included (something I wouldn't do) Aronian has 14-11 in wins (with 29 draws).
Wrong. Their decisive games, classical unless noted.

Carlsen-Aronian, Moscow (Blitz 2012), 0-1
I only count 5 classical wins by Carlsen, when was the 6th? And Aronian has 7.
Carlsen won both games against Aronian in Bilbao 2008. Aronian's win in the 2004 knockout was in rapid tiebreak. The 2007 match was six games long in classical chess (not twelve) and had two wins each before rapid/blitz. Among other decisive non-classical results not mentioned Carlsen won (and lost) in the World Blitz Championship 2009, won in the World Blitz 2010, and lost in rapid in Botvinnik Memorial 2011. Carlsen also won against Aronian in both Amber rapid and blindfold 2010.

Aronian has in all ten non-classical wins, the first coming in 2004 and the latest in the blitz played before Tal Memorial that decided the draw of the tournament this year.

I give in, Stevie, why would I have been buying crayons?
Edit: D'oh the blue horse lol - It's for the Scotland flag!

Actually it was a free download art program - got it to manipulate a chessboard image for "The Rook's Maze" piece I did. Then realised...Why the heck do I have a white knight when obviously the horse should be blue...or was that glue?

Joey, we couldn't find a bus that would hold enough Haggis Suppers and Irn Bru. So we thought we just send them down with the English mob and have them sponge some free food off the Southern softies.

Glue!! That must be a gerbils thing is it.
Hey!! Southern soffties. typical! just because Murray finally came through for you..God damn Unionists.
To clear up the Walter Browne/Walter Brown thing:
Walter Browne is the GM and 6-time US Champion you guys are thinking about.
Walter Brown is one of the top Tournament Directors in the country and has a lot of very important responsibilities in the USCF, handling rating matters, title applications to FIDE, etc.
Brown's e-mail address lists his name without an "e." As I said before, if it's incorrect, you'd think he would ask them to fix it.
What's your evidence that it's spelled Browne? Or are you just trolling and spoiling for a fight after the old timers slapped you around in that other thread? lol
hmm
Think we are at cross-purposes here C13. I made no reference to him.
'' Chess-Life '' is mince. ( But maybe that's only my opinion & the rest of the World may adore it )
