But also, it allows for White to reserve his 2 Center Pawns for a March with the King, at the endgame.

Some players like Botvinnik, Korchnoi and Polugaievski advocated 1 c4.
One of the points is to transpose to 1 d4 openings, but avoiding the Grünfeld Indian Defence:
1 c4 Nf6 2 Nc3 g6 3 e4 preventing 3...d5.
Another point is to play a reverse Sicilian in case of 1 c4 e5.
