THE ENPASSANT RULE IS SO DUMB

Endgames would be less complex without enpassant. Pawns would never be locked as an unblocked pawn could simply pass the neighboring ones without being captured.

Lang11

The purpose of the rule was to stop players from locking up the board with pawns

enpassant rule is the worst thing. It is a complete non sense rule. 1000 points should be deducted for using it. Why not make queen have knight power and pawn go backwards. Why only pawns can become queen anyone going to other side should also become queen.

i agree

En passant is stupid. I think it's too hard for beginners to grasp, and i have never used it in a game, neither has one of my opponents

Love the en passant rule. Punish those cowardly pawns that try to run away.

Wouldn't that make the players the dumb ones? Just trying to follow your logic here...

What about the rest of your opponents?

#104 that’s because your 200 elo, as you climb the ladder it becomes more common

And so is this forum

#98 because the people who make up FIDE said so, deal with it

Without en passant black would never have to worry about proper Endgame play. The side with more pawns would essentially always win, which would make chess far less interesting. That's why en passing is needed.

abc1234_123

It makes winning positions converted to losing positions. That's completely unfair and it's wrong also.

My mistake. I meant neither has any one of my opponents, as in none of my opponents.

For once, I agree with EE

abc1234_123

To make interesting why not king have knight power so it can jump around without getting check mate . Also enpassant is a weird pawn rule.

The history of chess explains why en passant was created. Originally, pawns could only move one square. That slowed down opening play because people were so busy pushing pawns. It was decided to let pawns move two spaces on their first move to speed up the opening.

This allowed a pawn to jump past an enemy pawn without fear of capture. That's not fair so en passant was created to allow the poor bypassed pawn one chance to kill that enemy upstart.
