The improvement timetrack for talented players looks like this

Sometimes advice from someone like you on how to improve is more useful and/or accessible to e.g. beginners than advice from a titled player who long ago forgot what the main struggles are, and how to improve at that level.
I try to give advice a lot, and keep the student in mind, but sometimes when I read a much lower rated player's advice I realize it was better for the person asking than what I said.

I went from 2000 to 2200 in one year, and I was only averaging 2-3 hours of study per day (I kept track of this). If you were really aiming to be a top GM I imagine 7-8 hours a day wouldn't be out of the question. What I'm saying is if you study the best learning resources, spend the right amount of focused hours per day training, and on top of that have good health, a good mentality, and real drive you can probably grow extremely quickly. However everyone seems to slow down a lot in the 2600-2700 range.
LMAO oh ONLY 2-3 hours per day... "I worked EXTREMELY hard for 1 year to go from 2000-2200." is what should have been said.
2-3 hours per day is nothing compared to what top GMs are willing to do. I don't believe I worked extremely hard. There was one month I had off from school and work where I did 5-6 hours per day. It was rough but I managed to last through the month. That is a lot closer to what I consider working extremely hard, but compared to guys like Nakamura and Kramnik that is nothing.
