the injustice of chess!

My opponent has defended reasonably well but the fact of the matter is i have kicked his ass across ranks and down files from the kingside to the queenside! I make one little "mistake" and boom I am on the DEFENCE!! my opponent has done nothing to deserve this "rapid" turn of fortune. Of course my pieces are so extended from my attack so that i cannot properly defend myself. THERE IS NO JUSTICE IN CHESS Yell

Sounds like justice was pretty well served, actually.

No, true justice is quite intimate...and romantic...Kiss

Tartakower never played chess online! Winning depends on whether or not Knights are better than BishopsTongue out

Those losses can really hurt. 39/40 of your moves were better than his, but the one move that was worse decided the game.  To know every player has to face these kinds of losses makes me feel a little better -- it's true that consistency is a big deal in chess.

I'd be interested in seeing this game if you would like to post it. Perhaps others would like to help you analyze your mistake. Maybe there was in fact something you could have done?

Something I try to remind myself of every day:

How many moves does it take to lose a chess game? One.

Very well said and so true.

Its not really true, as sometimes i have blundered away my queen, but my opponent fails to see it and i have gone to win that game! Tongue out

Well in that case the quote wouldn't apply to you anymore... it would apply to your opponent. Laughing

THAT scenario which i posted at the top of this thread, has happened, or will happen to you if you play this game long enough! THIS happened to me in a big uscf tourny in connecticut years ago. AS i looked over at my opppnent after my little "mistake" and he "removed" my foot from his ass with a sly grin! I became angry at the chessboard , for 3 hours i "owned" that clown ' now i am defending for my life because of a little "miscalculation" not a "goal-line" stand by my opponent or a great counter-attacking defensive reply. but a simple "miscalculation" on my part! I will admit most players who are the recipient of this "rapid" change of fortune will admit I GOT LUCKY !  Laughing

Been there, done that; for what it's worth, I feel your pain.

In cases like that when you make such a horrible blunder from a great position on accident it is probably best in my opinion to just resign if no reasonable way to at least draw is available.
