Firstly, I answered the question directly.

Secondly, yes. Chinese Chess is closer to the original common ancestor Indian Chess than Western Chess, or chess as we know it today.

I'm pretty sure some real-life knights (horses) are unable to jump when there are too many obstacles around them.

I once tried to replace a knight by the Chinese chess version and the king by the Chinese chess version.

 

I got checkmated very easily on f7.
