The league ruined chess.com

Since only by winning a game you can run to a higher league, and if you reach out the highest, you win some money, currently there are numerous new users all of them with high rating (2100-2500), but not with a very high rating (because then they will be reported by GMs). Their strategy is simple: they win some games, then lose intentionally to much lower rated players (yes they are unbeatable, unless you flag them). This way they maintain a specific rating, while their win percentage is at least 75%. They are clearly not playing fair, but my point is not about stopping them. Actually there is no way to stop such players in online manner (at least with a loose approach of chess.com), but it is possible to separate leagues from normal live games. That way we won’t see such many new type of cheaters.

You can leave the league. I did.

Just click on player leagues and then leave league.

Lock inbound. When will you learn, Silver Wine?!

Sandbaggers are everywhere, especially in tournaments. League hasn't changed that, they were always there. I guess it's allowed to go down hundreds of rating intentionally.

It's not and should be reported.

I don't envy the people that are responsible for handling those reports, must be thousands a day.

@Contenchess, does it mean that afterwards I’ll play only with those who are not in the league? Otherwise it doesn’t help much.

@M1m1c15, Recently I had a huge tilt and I complained about that in a separate post. But now I’m getting back and if you check my recent games, have beaten several titled players recently (more than half of my recent titled players lost to me), what I’m saying is about those who are sandbagging/cheating/… just because they want to go up the leagues. Look at my recent losses. The majority of them are against people with rather new accounts or recently activated/reactivated accounts. This combination of win/losses does not happen randomly.

Initially I thought the prize incentive is a good reason for higher rated players to play lower rated ones. But situation is getting catastrophic very quickly. That’s a failure, at least for now.

I am really up for this league. But if no one will be revert to a lower league then in the end no one will be in the Wood section with a couple of months. Or have I missed something ?????

There are always new members joining and playing, so the wood league will probably always have a significant number of members.

Ok well lets hope that is the case.

How can we track our league progress ????

You can see your progress on your homepage and profile. Those are links to the main league pages and there is also a link on your mini-profile.

That changes nothing since it is exactly same games with same players no matter if you're in league or not. So it would be better to play games which don't give league points: avoid arena tournaments and play daily or other time controls.

That's fundamentally misunderstanding the stated problem.

The sandbaggers are allegedly doing ratings dumps in order to wins more games.  So long as the sandbaggers are in the leagues, they need /quick/ wins to prosper.

The one bright side is that it's really easy to win promotion from the Wood League.  In two week's time, take a month off because there will be 1-2 months of cut-throat competition to get to the top leagues in much more competitive situations.

Whichever game type is chosen as "maximally efficient".  Arenas are going to be the preferred way of getting games because of the bonus.

Bullet is 3 points per maximum 2 mins = 1.5 points per min

Blitz is 9 points per maximum 6 mins = 1.5 points per min

Rapid is 15 points per maximum 20 mins = 0.75 points per min

(That ignores the arena bonus).

Conclusion: switch to Rapid because there will only be really dumb sandbaggers there.  Bullet arenas and to a lesser extent blitz arenas are about to get hella tough.
