What time chess do most people here play?  I used to play BULLET (1/0) on yahoo. Here I playt mostly 10/0-- 1/0 got me into a lot of bad habits, 10/0 is better. What is the most common time for all of you senior players?

Well, as a senior.... I try to play longer timed games. I still play some ten minute for fun and aggravation, but the 1, 3, and 5 day games are better for me.

To each his or her own really, just enjoy whatever you choose.the shorter games can be more addictive i suppose. However, the shorter times severely restrict your time to make a good, sound decision. Many here have described it as not giving yourself enough time to think and thus blunder more often. I like to say it just takes me more time to really screw it up!

Is this normal?

GM's must have very very high IQ's because I feel really stupid.

You just need to believe in yourself and start working on yourself.

And chess isn't about IQ. It's a very popular myth.

I'd say to address these comments. I believe that there is an algorithm that rates and stores games in a database. The games are accessed simultaneously via a multidimensional vertex or something like so. The computer logic has outpaced human logic. So the computer is getting better. Also chess players are getting better over time. If you don't learn and directly apply what has been learnt and make it concrete on paper our minds will experience fleeting moments of chess wisdom and clarity. Our successes trapped in a pendelemised moment between repeating measurements of success and failure.

Solution:

1. Play

2. Review

3. Learn how to read the board

4. Understand what your opponent is saying to you through the chess board.

The more fluent one is in a language the better understanding one has of the native and then will you see its beauty.

I'm playing much worse since starting Blitz. I make a lot more errors even in rapid games. I've forgotten how to play with the time pressure

I really appreciate everyone on this thread who have shared their experience of their game getting worse the more they play. I too am now suffering from this strange malady. I don't have a solution. I don't have a causation. I am just quietly mystified. I am going to assume that in time things will straighten back up; and, the perpetual losing streak which is holding me hostage on a run-away train of mediocrity will come to a full and complete stop. Reading the reports from others has at least given me some level of comfort that I haven't developed a rare tumor which impacts the cognitive centers of my brain which only affects my Chess play - at least I hope that the case!

I'm having the same situation. The highest elo I have reached was probably like 700. I started taking chess more seriously, I started studying and watching videos that would help me. When I play against other players I started losing A LOT. Over this past week, I have tilted a lot of elo and now I'm down to about 300. Can someone give me advice or tell me why this is happening?

When you lose a game, the first thing you should do is stop and look through that game.

Ask yourself questions, such as: "Where did I go wrong?"

and

"What could I have done better?"

Don't play another game until you've answered these above questions, to the best of your ability.

This process (some call it "review", others call it "analysis") is the important part. It's where chess learning happens, and where improvement comes from. If you're skipping this step (or not putting much effort into this step), then your progress will be limited ...

(Also, after glancing at some of your games, the universal recommendation is worth repeating: "Work on tactical puzzles, to improve your tactical vision" ...)
