I have never smeared BF ! You interpret that 'cuz you're emotional about him. Admit it.

All I said was that he lacked creativity....and I have shown that with quasiproof. That's not a shot against him....that's my understanding. He obviously possessed the other (5) needed qualities.

And he was a great player....a bit unproven....but he showed greatness....and creative weakness, IMO.

YAAAAAAAAAWN !!!

However, if Fischer said things about your mother like he did about the Jews and the country he was born in you would not like him as a person either.

I think most of us can recognize mental illness when we see it. I don't judge obviously troubled people by the same standards, particularly when it's all just talk.

I take his mental illness into account but he said some very vile things and to gloss over that is a mistake.  I just don't like the person he became.

Bobby was not that good...

His mental illness because he had strong opinions and was as direct as a knife into butter?

incantevoleutopia

I don't agree with you. You are mentally ill.

Nice mentality ;)

I understand high genius IQ individuals have a tendancy to be quirky but most don't have their dental fillings removed because they fear someone is reading their minds.  He was highly paranoid but he seemed to be suffering psychological problems from childhood.

His attack on the Jews had nothing to do with just "strong opinion."  He became a bitter Jew hating individual and downright mean person.

"Just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean they're not after you."

Semi-evil?  Quasi-evil?  One-half times x where x is evil?

The Bible also says to "judge righteous judgment" in John 7:24.  We make judgments every day.  Those who have no moral standards believe there is no right or wrong when it comes to beliefs.

Bobby Fischer has become a hero to many anti-Semites.  I idolize him as a chessplayer but not as a person.

dudadias

He was indeed crazy...

Who was that directed at?

(Preemy #28) Many people don't like Fischer as a person including myself.

Have you ever shared a latte with him ? If not, how in the he!! are you suppose to know what he was really like ?

My two cents here:

I got seriously fascinated by chess thanks to life and chess of Bobby Fischer. I was born USSR in 1985, grew up in Armenia. I learned chess there but my interest in chess really skyrocketed after I moved to the U.S., discovered YouTube, discovered Fischer.

Bobby Fischer was one of the most creative chess players who ever lived. If you think otherwise, let me tell you something straight:

YOU HAVE NO CLUE ABOUT CHESS!

The_Ghostess_Lola

Many-many ppl that knew BF as a person saw him as someone who gave unconditional friendship w/ those whom he hit it off w/.

So, don't judge a book by it's cover....especially those blah-blah biographies.

Spirit of the Victory Korchnoi:

BF was creatively weak. He was superstrong in the other skill sets. He was sporatically creative when thinking on his feet (OTB)....& that was due to stumble-bumming play by his opponents. And he was a trade-down specialist. Everything he's done has been refuted to a comedic hairpulling. Exception: His expansion in the Sozin-Fischer Attack.

His KGA 3...d6 is old, sterile, and binky-soft. His Poisoned Pawn contribution in the Sicilian looks inane today.

Nearly all of his so-called "creations" are somewhere collecting nowhere dust in a hopechest that's been closed for nearly 50 years ! He was a sponge of sorts....and part of his legacy should be asterisked out to Lombardy and other lesser seconds.

BTW, play some games and get a rating....then get mouthy.

From which we can deduce that it is okay to make a (righteous) judgement that stones should be thrown... but it is only appropriate for the stone throwing to be inaugurated by one without sin. Laughing

After that all of the judgmental sinners would appear to have free license to throw stones at their hapless fellow sinner to their heart's delight. Wink
