The Perfect Game...?

Is there such thing as a perfect game

of chess, some way to play

regardless of color of pieces, or name,

or ranking, or is there a way

to move that cannot lead to shame

but only victory?

Is there some strategy, some bit of advice,

that cannot fail a player if followed to

the letter, regardless if black or white

pieces await commands from you,

or is it that chess cannot be mastered

and all it comes down to each game

is stalemate, delight, or stanky disaster

for two people who aren't the same?

Should you counter this move with that

the way a dog's expected to chase a cat?

I wonder as I wander through the board

if chess is a game of thinking, or feeling,

guessing it's both, but searching for

the trick, if there is one, to winning,

since practicing for decades hasn't made

me unbeatable, or maybe my brain is frayed

and I don't have the intelligence to

think my way through

the quagmire, for I am vanquished more

than I remain the victor,

always getting better

for what that's worth forever,

and though I don't expect to be the best

nor reach untamable status

I do plan to keep on trying to

no matter what my opponents do

to me as I search on and on

for a guru, a revelation spawned,

whatever it takes to find a way

to crush every one I ever play!

Maybe someday...since hope's here to stay.

I'm confused...

But I've also been Curious to see a Match between two of the best engines going at it. How it would pan out neither blundering

Sure It exists

Never thougt about asking till I saw this thread

And not wanting to derail

Unsure what you're asking though

I think this is at least partially, poetic.

"very pretty" is the correct response.  on the other hand, who hasn't wished they could truly unravel ches and become unstoppable and undefeatable at the game.

having taken a potshot at Carlsen's game tonight.  I kind of wish I were a bit, no a lot stronger. but... I think you can only try to do your best and take whatever results the royal game gives you.

and if it were a question, yes,  if you never made a mistake you would not lose.... irregardless of the "color of pieces, or name,or ranking"

see I'm just full of advice tonight! lol.

i hear ya; what a game that would be...flawless moves all the way through...i wonder about that too...would it therefore be stalemate, or would such a game expose the theory as likely that white pieces moving first provides inherent advantage, or what? I was asking how to find the Truth, how we can know anything with absolute certitude, how we can acquire omniscience even if we choose to use it to remove it, for it seems to me that chess can't be mastered, except perhaps by God or something like that, but that no matter how long chess is around as an obstacle to overcome or a mountain to climb, it is intimately entangled with humanity, and people will keep getting smarter and smarter enhancing the game therefore, it will dance through evolution along with us, through change, though for all we know the greatest chess player of all time, future included, may have already passed away, in a cave, in a jungle where cicadas gather every thirteen years and fill the sky with beautiful din, but that is fairly unlikely if you ask me cuz the future is precisely as deep, as long, as eternal, as the past, and life, as jeff goldloom reminded us in jurassic park, finds a way.

i hear ya! its pretty wild stuff. the poem may as well have the song The Impossible Dream (<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cGsYrpejAYw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> )  playing in the background when read.

Course, as far as stars go, the unreachable one's the one to reach for, or so heart whispers...through a trumpet...through a megaphone.  if one can master chess, they will literally be in the presence of all truth. they will know everything, and that, quite simply, is because it would require omniscience to do so...or so that particular theory goes, that voice in the deep abyss suppose...s.

additionally i was trying to get people pumped up to ask that question for themselves, so as to better their games, for in so reaching for infinity, you are bound to at least land among the stars, and playing people who can crush you like an impiscruvial worm is wise and beneficial at a magnitude far exceeding the benefits of seeking out much lower ranked players to toy with, when the reason to play them should instead be to help them better their games too. the poem is like an onion, which is like an ogre, which is like a cake, which is like life, which is like life...fisher himself agreeing..."Chess is life."
