The personality of a D4 player

So each time I play with the white pieces I open with the move E4. I found through testing its the best move. Bobby Fischer also plays this move. Bobby Fischer was a genius. Am I genius too? Probably, but let's move on.

I have a problem with people who play the move D4 as white. I right away think, this is a weak, timid, untrustworthy, and non-genius person in real life. I automatically lose respect for them. It could be that they're playing the move to upset me and to put me on tilt like in poker. It seems to have worked. I have not had that good of results against D4. What is the best response to this pathetic, unsporting behaviour?

VladimirHerceg91

Play discuss how you were able to slay the D4 and overcome evil.

d4... well, it's a move.

And it works.

What you should do is have a strategy. Less tactics against d4.

No offense meant Vlad, but it's kind of hilarious watching you evolve as a chessplayer. You're going down the rabbit hole and you'll never be the same.

I suggest that you only play Chess with gentlemen from now on. And ladies, of course. Not with shifty d4-playing cads and bounders.

I counter d4 with d4..can't categorise them int some group..I am an e4

player as white but use other openings also..

Alright then ladies and gentlemen, there you have it. Lets give Vlad a nice round of applause. Thank you Vlad!

You're probably a D4 player. While you're here, maybe you can compare the D4 opening to Mozart's piano concerto No.16?...Modest and Polite made the embarrassing blunder of discussing classical music on a chess forum. I'm just giving them a hard time. I'm sure they're an ok person.

If you don't like it because it leads to closed positions then just play e5

VladimirHerceg91

Is that a gambit?

generickplayer

1. d4 e5 is a bad gambit.

As it appears that you are player who likes tactics. For you, I recommend the Benko gambit:

You get one semi-open file on the queenside you can use to wreak havoc if White takes only the first pawn. You get two semi-open files if White takes twice - play Bxa6 if White takes the second pawn. Play d6, g6, Bg7 (sort of like a Sicilian Dragon), move your heavy pieces (rooks, queens) to the open files in the queenside.

If White declines with, say, Nf3, play Bb7, d6, g6, Bg7.

If White only takes once and plays b6 when you offer the second pawn (declining it), take back the pawn with your queen later after moves like d6, g6 and Bg7.
NeilBerm

Yeah it is the englund gambit, I play the Blackburn-hartlaub variation usually. The Budapest is a more common gambit that also involves an early e5 but I do not know too much about it aside from some brief experimentation.

I give up with people like you.  It seems that blocking a person does not hide their idiotic contributions to the forums.  Such a pity.  I've seen enough of VladimirHerceg91, and others like him, to last me a lifetime.

I expected to find sensible folk here, with a genuine interst in chess, but there seems to be no end of trolls and winder-uppers, askers of stupid questions, and very weak players presenting rubbish games as if they were brilliancies.

Yes, I made an embarrassing blunder.  But not discussing music. [You seem too dim to appreciate the analogies].

My blunder was taking out a Diamond membership.  There is no way I am going to renew it when this otherwise excellent site is being ruined by some of the people that frequent it.

Vlad, just how much time do you have on your hands?

Woah woah woah woah woah, take it easy. They might seem like stupid questions to you, but my questions help a lot of beginner players. I'm sorry that you're too advanced in chess to appreciate these questions. But I ask you, please think back on when you were a beginner, and then maybe you'll have some sympathy for what I do.

I've noticed, pal.

I will try both the gambit, and nimzo-indian to improve my game.

Carla-Magnusson

I rarely play D4 Vlad, I find it tedious. If your going to play chess, at least play a decent opening  :)
