The question of the day....

Which world chess champion (past+current) is the WEAKEST of them all?  And why?

PS:  You may consider Paul Morhy in this group, even though he wasn't an official champion...

aadaam

If we're talking about the weakest world champion rather than the weakest player it has to be Fischer. He couldn't cut it.

I read that his fear of losing was very much a factor later in his carreer....

Karppov never really proved himself against the Greats, Beat Fischer by forfeit ...

The FIDE official list of world champions includes the following players who won knockout events after Kasparov split with the FIDE and organized a match with Short.

Anatoly Karpov (1993-1999)

Alexander Khalifman (1999-2000)

Viswanathan Anand (2000-2002)

Ruslan Ponomariov (2002-2004)

Rustam Kasimdzhanov (2004-2005)

Veselin Topalov (2005-2006)

So I’d say it has to be a toss up between Khalifman, Ponomariov or Kasimdzhanov.
