The Secret of Chess

I mean, I should not have been more credible 10 days ago, or my book more credible, but the discrepancy is tremendous.

So I really wonder what happened.

My book is the same, my credibility is the same, but interest is much lower.

That is one thing I am unable to explain myself.

It’s like ratings. Sales fluctuate all the time. Did you really need a teenager to tell you that?

Not at all, many books are stable.

Some of you seem to take the OPs posted games as some sort of proof. How can you be sure he actually played these games? I think most of us can play a game against Stockfish and win if we allow ourselves to take back moves. How do we know he didn't do that?

Regarding what the OP wrote about flying being expensive and the reason why he doesn't partake in FIDE tournaments. I am willing to pay part of the plane tickets for this to happen if others want to do the same. This way we can have his strength evaluated.

What I like is that LT right now is posting here games played against the last version of Stockfish, games he is or losing or drawing. This is compatible with a real scenario, where he is studying and learning the weakness of this version. For me is quite impressive that he is already able to draw against such a strong engine which is (afaik) 50 points stronger than the former version.

About LT denying to play chess against humans in chess.com: the concern that his games could indeed be regarded as the product of manipulation is not completely unsound. Some top players like Caruana are playing regularly the best moves proposed by engines, sometimes over 20 moves. If LT is playing regularly against engines since more than 10 years, it is possible that his games would also show a strong similarity with games produced by engines. If so, the discussion about his strengths would not stop.

I think LT will once make the step and play some tournaments. I don't know about most of you guys, but I really would like to see him scoring well against top players.

Lyudmil Tsvetkov is very very tired.

I browsed 300 Carlsen games today, and picked maybe 10 or 15 good for publishing.

This is a lot of work.

I don't know how people expect me to play after that.

I tried  a few handicap games with SF today and, surprise, I drew almost all, did not win any, and even lost one or 2.

So, one simply can not do everything, you need energy to play well.

But you were more credible 10 days ago. And even more credible 10 days before that, etc. As people have been telling you, the more you say, the less credible you become. So you are more credible now than you will be 10 days from now, assuming you keep posting the things you typically post. Sales of your books have probably just run their normal life cycle. Instead of letting them sell themselves based on how good they might be, you interfered with that by giving people every possible reason to not buy them. You could fix that of course. Play some tournaments under controlled conditions, people would believe you again, gain some credibility, then book sales would increase. It's reallly about what you want to see happen.

Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

Only draw.

Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

And again only draw.

Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

And another draw.

So many weaker moves.

And you want me to play like that, so that everybody on Chess.com beats me, right?

Notice how he responds to @IfPatriotGames very logical arguments by posting games that we don’t know he actually played.

Btw., one peculiarity of handicap games is that the position is always open by definition.

So that, one difficulty for the human is he can hardly close the position, so must fight the engine on its home turf.

Many might think this is actually a very big handicap, but try beating SF with the very same.

Or even only drawing.

For the record, a full knight handicap is twice larger than 2 pawns one.

At least.

So, while everyone should be able to beat SF with full knight up, 2 pawns is not that easy.

Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

Btw., while browsing Carlsen games today, it seems that 2/3 of all games are either rapid or blitz, or maybe online.

How low has modern chess gone?

They asked Botvinnik once, 'Have you ever played a blitz game?' - 'I did once, it was on a train back in 1932', was the concise answer.

But then, Botvinnik played quality chess, which can not be said of all those blitz and rapid games.

Online too.

So, you want to drag me into the abyss of low-quality chess.

Keep making excuses. You’re only hurting yourself by not playing.

Abobe games are weak, it is obvious from the moves, but, if you want real top notch human-engine competition, 'Human versus Machine' is for you: https://www.expert-chess-strategies.com/human-versus-machine.html

Lyudmil Tsvetkov, will you play in a FIDE OTB tournament if someone pays for your plane tickets?

Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

Dear CigoLogic, I guess you are the biggest troll around.

I can pay my plane tickets, there simply is not an airport next to where I live. happy.png

cigoLogic

I am, honestly, not trying to troll you. I am being serious. I want to know if you truly are as good as you claim, so I am willing to help you convince us all about this. How far away is the nearing airport? And if it's too far away, which sounds bizarre (since there as taxis), then why don't you partake in an ICCF tournament and become the next ICCF World Champion? Here, engines are allowed, so there is no cheating, and you play from the comfort of your own home, so no disturbances either.

Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

ICCF sucks.

Airports su**.

I only believe in OTB. happy.png

Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

I can't and can't beat SF, only draws.

Maybe I should stop writing and start playing more games, until I score couple of wins, but maybe I am simply not in good form now.

Come summer, SF will desperately try to draw some games.

Lyudmil_Tsvetkov

Again only draw.

I am fully desperate by now.

I tell, I thought SF got weaker, but this version is at least 3 elos stronger than SF 8.

Anyone having positive score against latest SF?

cigoLogic

What is the problem with ICCF?

And which country and city are you located in?
