The unclear border between blitz and rapid

MrChatty, I'm almost the same. In shorter time controls, like blitz, i don't like increment, but in longer time controls, like rapid, I like increment.

Engine users tend to play time-controls with increment to offset the time it takes to input moves. I'll only play with increment OTB.

I thought it might be helpful to look at the time it takes to complete an average game. Actual stats, I had trouble finding... I found a little from Reddit and Lichess, almost none from other sources, so this is mostly an average of the estimates others have made, rounded off, on Chess.com, Lichess and Reddit:

1 min: 90 seconds

1/1: 1 minute 50 seconds

2/1: 2 minutes 40 seconds

3 min: 3  minutes 20 seconds

3/2: 6 minutes 30 seconds

5 min: 6 minutes 10 seconds

10 min: 17 minutes

15/10: 35 minutes

30 min: 48 minutes

note: a FIDE tournament classical game, 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment per move starting from move one, usually lasts 4 to 6 hours, according to FIDE.org

also note: the figures for 1 min, 10 min and 30 min games are from an analysis of over 1 million games played on Lichess that I found on Reddit, and rounded off... the exact numbers are 94 seconds for 1 min, 17 minutes 18 seconds for 10 min and 48 minutes 11 seconds for 30 min
