The way we are supposed to play chess!

Interesting that Mosai and Originaleaz have apparently determined that there should be a rating threshold below which expressing an opinion is not acceptable.  My current rating is only 1125.  I suppose I should not express my oinion also.  Want to call me names too?

I have 3,100+ online games; a lot of fun and beer to boot.

drinking beer kills your brain cells you better think of moving on don't you ?

Let me know when I have none left Professor.

I have a new system to teach you for chess 960. I just painted a big X on my wall. Now I have a reference point to keep me orientated.

When i play on the computer i just draw an X on the screen.

that's why i hate this ranking idea why don't they make a free rank profile for those who don't open chess that much and have more important things in life than just to play chess i'd love to be free ranked :D

"it's about making the wrong move or being 1 move away from losing"

I'm sorry but I don't see what you're getting at, you seem to be suggesting that people are too good at chess now, and that we should be making more mistakes. What?

yourmindillusions

no i don't suggest that people should do more mistakes i only meant that we have to play with our own style not acording to books and classic game openings and then we will start to think more as we ,i just mentioned the wrong move or the 1 move from losing because that's when i really start thinking to come with sthg from nthg:D

He has all right to express his opinion but so do I as well. And having a 1125 rating is...really...really bad. At least if you have been playing chess for more than 2 months.

rating is not a true indicator of your real skills !

It is a good indicator though. A rating difference of 677 means the better player will win 99% of the games, it's a statistical measuring tool

maybe it is for those who play chess on this site all the time but for me rating isn't that important! why don't we play a 30 minutes game and see if rating really tells you who is the most likely to win ?

I'm a beginner too, and initially I didn't bother with studying openings either. But now, I'm slowly working my way through opening theory, one small step at a time. The reason being that without proper knowledge of the basic openings, games can be lost in the beginning itself. When I play timed matches, I certainly don't want to spend all the time on my clock understanding the first 10-odd moves. Understanding opening theory ensures I don't spend much time in the opening and actually spend in studying positions and coming up with tactics.

You said you like mathematics, so I'll try to put forth a mathematical analogy. Would you show up for a geometry examination without any knowledge of, say, parallel lines or properties of triangles, and just think that you'll derive all theorems in the examination hall itself ? It is admirable, but also impractical. ( BTW, I love maths too, and I actually did this sort of a thing in a differential equations exam once. Went with only basic knowledge, didn't bother going through all the theorems, and actually did derive them in the exam hall itself to solve problems ! While it did feel kind of good to be able to do so, it was also very stupid because I wasted all my time in finding out results I was already supposed to know.)

nice :) but to pass an exam is nothing like to play a chess game it's for fun and by studying openings you leave no fun for the game this my point of view :) and i sure respect yours :)
