The worst broadcast I'd ever seen

The decision was easy for me. I disabled Flash Player on my PC, so if it requires Flash, I don't watch it. Laughing

I can't resist to share my stupefaction about broadcast's organization of the Candidates this year !!!

I'm not only talking about prohibition for others sites to broadcast the tournament, but also about the poor if not terrible quality of the live...

Firstly,if I can understand they want excusivity but I cannot understand why they are spying us ! Here their justification of why we need to login with  emails to watch the live: "we would like to know the geo location, statistics, ages and the whole lot", I had never seen a real broadcast requiring this !!!

Secondly, did you see the live ?? Stuffed of sponsors ads, and less than the half of the time concerns games and their analyses... Even presentator Evgeny Mirosnichenko seems to be worried about the organization of the live. The only good points is presence of good guests as Guelfand currently.

And thirdly, a little detail but quite worrying : why are they not putting the game in full screen ? There is only a little chessboard on th edge of the screen.

I really did not expect that and wanted to share my thoughts... React !!

(P.S. : I apologize for my poor English, but you are nonetheless lucky that it is written and not spoken as my accent is even worse  )

Oh well, just stop watching the broadcast then or boycot it. Because no one of the organisation is going to view this thread probably.

I will be waiting for the video recaps of chess.com and watch them, gotta love Danny Rensch his commentary (:, I don't understand why people need the moves to see live anyway. It just takes too long, like watching paint dry.

@MonkeyH: Some players just want to get a quick overview on the game. Like a pianist not only listens to music but also wants to take a look at the music sheet.

The move list was also helpful here because at least in the first round the navigation bar for the chess boards didn't work properly.

PS. Here is an interesting article in The Guardian about the broadcast subject: http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/mar/13/world-chess-champion-magnus-carlsen-candidates-tournament-moscow-agon

why did they not do a live broadcast of the fischer-spassky match in 1972

they had all those tv cameras

they could have broadcasted it on the internet

now is the time to take action.

you could send a letter to Trump or Sanders or Clinton to complain.  Maybe they will bring it up during their next political speech

Yea, if the broadcast isn't attractive, why would I want to watch it so their ads get more valuable ? So many good tournaments to watch, candidates isn't so special after all.

If I had to choose between a magnificent broadcast like last Sinquefield cup and a bad broadcast like this candidates, I'd prefer Sinquefield any day of the week.

Yes, you are right, (meanwhile?) they implemented an iframe pointing to livestream

30 years ago we didn't have the internet, and people were forced to wait days to wait for updates from newspaper columns to find out what happened in the big tournaments. Now by contrast, we're spoilt.

Maybe that's true, but I still think that's not quite a fair comparison.

30 years ago we received those updates with a delay not because of the fault of the reporters, but because that was the best the technological standard and news infrastructure of those times would allow.

And those reports were often lovingly detailed, with a whole lot of effort put into them, good background information and interesting tidbits to go with them.

Also, while those newspapers had ads, of course, those ads did not jump at me and interrupt me mid-reading those reports now, did they ?

Back then, we often got high quality reports measured on what was possible back then.

Even today we often get high quality broadcasts measured by todays standards. This candidates tournament though is not one of those high standard broadcasts. Instead, it looks very substandard compared to other broadcasts we get these days.

So no, I can't really agree that the problem is just us being spoilt.

I mentioned these (and many other) problems the very first day on their twitter account. Got blocked. So I created another account and started posting the moves to them in real time... Blocked again.

This seems to be AGON/Fides way to deal with constructive critisism.
