TheMechanicalTurk Bot at chess.com: How strong is The Mechanical Turk?

Sort:

Here is the three things I know:

1. The Mechanical Turk will reveal itself on June 15

2. The Mechanical Turk has played against Alekhine

3. The Mechanical Turk is EXTREMELY good. By forcing it to play against Komodo-25, the game is surprisingly close - almost equal, in fact

Hope this helps!

This is me playing using the chess.com hints button. I cannot defeat him on my own. His rating must be lower than 3200 (Maximum chess.com engine level) because I played that with hints and maximum won. Does that rule out anything?

Is Mech Turk Sultan Khan?

I used Assisted Mode against it and I am an average player ( see my stats ) , and I was just bamboozled. One simple mistake, he wins, no mistakes, we draw... Maybe its rating is 3200 exactly...And I saw a guy writing that he is falling for scholar's mate, tried it, but couldn't... Maybe it learns from its mistakes. To err is human as well as chess bots I think...

I played with it and it played at 98 percent accuracy. I am no match with it. It is atlleast 2300 in my mind and level it shows is only relative to how you play. Waste of time to even try defeating it. Unless you are 2500 or more.

Well, it isn't a waste of time; u get to learn something.

Even if you try to beat it, it is just not possible. even if you use custom rules

I think it's about 2600-2800 The bot says something along the lines of "How many moves can I see ahead? Oh, I don't know... fifty!" I'm fairly certain that's a famous line Capablanca said to a reporter one time. I think his elo is estimated to be in that range.

Interesting, because when you defeat the bot it tells you that you stronger than Alekhine, who Capablanca lost to. It also mentions winning the Hastings tournament, which Capablanca did. I'm fairly certain at this point that it is capablanca.

Yep that's my guess

I wondered Mechanical Turk's elo so I played againist him with using other bots in chess.com and it beated Magnus Carlsen's bot so The Mechanical Turk's elo is above 2882 which makes him the strongest bot in chess.com

I think that The Mechanical Turk is just Komodo-25 with a tweaked playstyle. It is a very strong bot, could probably be a match for Stockfish.

It somehow gets into a position that a normal human player would consider "bad" then proceeds to defend and get back to a winning or drawn position flawlessly through sacrifices and aggressive counterplay. When I paired it against stockfish it played an extremely dry and dull game but slowly got smothered over time. One thing I found surprising was that some of it's moves were so complex that stockfish would begin reevaluating midway throughout the game, which is something that never happened with any of the other bots that I have paired stockfish against, such as the 3200 maximum engine and Magnus bot.

Dang that's interesting. I've never thought of a bot that is bad until it needs to be good, where it then becomes really good.

Note: You may or may not know this, but the 3200 maximum bot is Komodo-25
