Sorry mods, but as a black man in the south, I am offended by the word Rebel, it should never be used.

Maybe you could start being offended by commas and exclamation marks too. Tell everyone how Hitler used those and that they should never be used anymore these days.

Oh, and we could also stop using the number zero; I'm sure some racist somewhere had it as his favourite number.

Come to think of it, how about we stop using speech altogether ? It's the most certain way no poor, hypersensitive soul gets hurt by having to read ebil wordz.

It is very unnecessary to feed into this "person's" (and I use that word lightly) ignorance. He is completely unaware that his own actions are rebellious in nature. So in essence he is acting as the word he so dispises. LOL. I find that hilarious!

He would have really been upset to know that I attened South High School and can you guess who the mascot was? Which the irony of this is that my high school was 77% Hispanic 12% Black and only 7% White. Not to mention that the person who dressed up as the mascot while I attended in the 90's was black and a good friend of mine. Strange world we live in.

Just another bit of info about the word rebel from urban dictionary.

A rebel is a person who stands up for their own personal opinions despite what anyone else says. A true rebel stands up for what they believe is right, not against what's right. It's all about being an individual and refusing to follow a crowd that forces you to think the same way they do even if it means becoming an outcast to society. True rebels know who they are and do not compromise their individuality or personal opinion for anyone. They're straightforward and honest and they will sure as hell tell it like it is.

unfortunately it is easy to insult but hard to report. you can't name and shame in case you hurt his/her feelings :)

important to protect the bullies

I think it has more to do with unfounded accusations and cluttering the forums with those types of posts and the inherent risk of the discussion escalating in tone quickly.

people are mean, its good to get used to that - i prefer to just be quiet and let them talk, and if i win, then i say a few mean things in return - the point to me is to be able to play w a bit of pressure / negativity - cant run from the hatred in the world but its good to be able to handle it, in my opinion - otherwise you're not going to like tournaments at all

<ap_resurrection> even if you posted a whole week ago, maybe you see this answer -

My way of dealing with this is different. I assume that there will always be enough good-natured players to hang out with, and I don't need those with evil intentions

(evil intenions OFF THE BOARD, mind you. On the board all is good, or almost...)

If someone acts abusive online - disable chat, try to beat him in that game, block him forever...

If someone acts abusive offline - smile, extend my hand, politely resign the game, thank you for playing, never play him again (unless I have to do it because I'm paired against him in competition...)

If someone acts abusive in competition - this is what TDs (tournament directors, arbiters) are for.
