There should be No limit on abort option

As stated in title.

I know that chess.com claims it to be part of a fair play policy but how is it fair when, in some cases, I have to sit there and wait while my opponent has exhausted his abort limits?!!

It makes no sense to remove abort option but yet leave the server abort option.  Some players do not wish to play an opponent that they are paired with.  That wish isn’t prevented with this system; they just wait for server to time out.  While I know it serves as an inconvenience for them it does not for me.  I’d rather they have an option to just abort right away!

How do you know when someone is at their abort limit? (I've never noticed anything saying that.)

I don't understand your point.

  • If you dont like your oppnent elo ( too low or to high ) then its more appropriate toset an elo range in the search instead to abort a game.

  • If you want to play a specific color, you can also force that instead to abort if you got the "wrong color"

  • If your opponent is too slow, then you shoud have chosed faster games. If you decided to play a 15 min game your opponent have the right to use those 15 minutes. For instance i hate when i sed up a 60 min game and my opponent get angry if i spend some time thinking. I set a long time for that purpose. Those that want to play blitz games have just to chose blitz time settings instead to bother his opponent sainng "move", "you are slow", "what are you waiting.." and stuf like this.
  • Why you should be able to abort an initiated game jsut beacuse you opponent is slow? Everyone will abort the moment thy realize they blundered or if they are losing.

Easy, I had instances where I get paired up with same person and both times they wait (as in they don't make a move) until the server aborts the game.  This is something like 20 sec.

I don’t want an option to abort the game in progress, which will be just plain stupid.

Before the game starts you have an option to abort.  Sometimes I get paired and have to abort because something else came up.  If I'm playing white then I abort if my opponent has moved I abort before making my move. Some people do it for whatever other reason and after 4 - 5 consecutive aborts that option goes away and the only way to abort the game is to wait for the server to abort it automatically. I understand the removal of abort options is so that the opponents can’t constantly abort on player (thus in a sense forcing a game) but when that happens they just wait and the server aborts for them.  As stated in my first post I also understand that this waiting period servers as an inconvenience for those players but it also serves as an inconvenience for me to wait while they explore the server abort loop hole.

I agree. I wish I had the option to abort as many time as I wish as well. I play a lot of 1 min bullet games and there are times were the opponents don't make their first move, and I have to wait for the server abort. Sometimes I simply don't have time to wait for the server abort, and it's easier and faster to manually abort!

You don't have time to wait 1 min??  Where's the fire??

lol. well i usually play all my one minute bullet games at work. because i am trying to sneak in as many games as possible, i simply dont have the time to wait for the server to abort. yes, i know, i probably shouldnt be sneaking in one minute games at work to begin with.

No you shouldnt be sneaking games in at work and you ought to be ashamed of yourself. If this continues I will have no choice but to report you to your boss.

Ok, I promise to stop sneaking in games at work. *Begins to also sneak in games behind yorygregovich's back*

I read this title as "There should be no limit on abortion".

Also, I just wanted to add I also abort for another reason when I am playing 1 minute bullet games: if I notice that my opponent is lagging significantly via the lab bar indicator. I feel like I play a lot worse when my opponent is lagging!

TheOldReb

Obviously there is a limit on the abort option in order to reduce the abuse of the abort option .  If you really want out of a game that hasnt even started just resign !  problem solved !  Wink    On another server there is no rating change unless a min number of moves have been made in the game ( 3 or 4 I believe ) if a player resigns and I have resigned after 1 or no moves when noticing certain things .... like my opponents excessive lag for example . I dont know what happens here if you resign after 1 or no moves ... ??

bwillNAU

Don't quote me on this, but I believe that the minimum number of moves thing you refer to does not apply to 1 min bullet games - it might apply to other modes of chess, however, but I'm not sure!

Not sure, but i think i lost my network connection once after 1. e4.

Lost the game and the rating points. But again, I'm not 100 % sure i remember correctly.

Darn, after the first sentence i was going to say: What about doing some work?

But you prevented that in your second sentence. LOL

Still managed to sneak it in like this though.

oldfart61

bull   either play or don not this abort stuff is stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!

pyrrhos_aikides

i too get tired of people not making a first move. and no the game does not always auto abort after 20 seconds. i also get tired of people disconnecting before their first move. and no it does not always auto abort after 20 seconds. i abort games if my opponent doesn't make his first move within a min.

and so now my abort option is gone. i am reacting to bad sportsmanship and getting penalized as though i am hte one with the bad sportsmanship. i am tired of sitting for 5 or in some cases 15 min looking at a chess board with 1.e4 as the final move. so i abort.

it is a bad policy that does not take into account how little sportsmanship there is here. the policy needs to be changed.

some complain that they are tired of hearing about this. i have now read the entire thread.. if you do not like it then do not click on any links in the forums complaining about the policy.  if the policy was made better, there would not be any more posts like this one. if an admin wants to come on and disagree then we can discuss it...like adults? but anyone else whining about our complaint is useless. kida like a troll only not funny.

i am well aware tthat there needs to be some type of policy. this internetz is full of trolls and @$$holes. some will just start games and abort for fun. excessive aborting should lead to the privilege being taken away. but i have not done this excessively.

Zigwurst

You guys seriously can't wait 15 seconds? I think I've only ever used the abort option thrice, ever.
