Think I should just give up....

What do you think?

by all means take a look at my misserable stats if you'd like. I'm just getting worse. The other day i got battered against a guy playing with a 700 rating!!!!!! I practice tactics everyday, play at least three of four games a day when i've got time. I watch videos, read books and magazines, even spent £61 ($100) for a year on this site as a premium member!! I genuinely beleive that even though with all these teaching aids surrounding me, that I just flat out suck at chess.

LelaCrosby

How long have you been doing this?

Luvrug

sucking at chess??? oh it's been a while now.....

LelaCrosby

I mean, studying and practicing.  When did you decide to get premium membership?

Ruby-Fischer

I know how you feel, I just lost 7 games in a row, I seriously despair of myself...    :o((

Black_Locust

Why don't you try online chess more than live for a while? With a matter of days per move rather than seconds, you get more time to evaluate moves.

Take a break ( BUT DONT GIVE UP ! ) but just for now, you need to take a break until you get back on track.

When I first got an account here (a few years ago), I got really fustrated with losing all of the time and went inactive for awhile.  I got a new account last year (and eventually deleted the old one after someone told me that you were only allowed one account).  I've been doing tactics puzzles (50+) almost daily for roughly 8 months.  My play has definitely improved since then (but I didn't even know what an skewer tactic was back then lol).  I guess it just takes time to see statistical improvements.

Listen up.  You do not say that to a person that sincerely asks for help as to whether they should quit chess.  They even mention that they are on a losing streak.  Saying someone is retarded is bad enough.  In these circumstances?  You should be banned from the forums for some time.

Try my free video lessons program on youtube, you can access it in my group, 6th largest on chess.com

Lighten up, I was joking.  I lost a game last night too and I thought, "What am I?  Retarded?  I couldn't see that mate?"

I didn't mean anything personal about it, it was a general comment on how we all might feel after losing a game.  I will analyze the last game this person played and give whatever "retarded" advice I can.  Let's be retards together.

I'll choose not to listen to you about the word "retarded".

I guess you have to have ass burgers to enjoy it

I have aspergers, and that joke is not funny at all. I seriously think you should take a break.

The reason why you guys ratings keep staying the same is because you keep playing every second of the day. You need time to practice and time for rest. This is how i got my rating up and still climbing, yes i have my own internal battles but all you should do is play one game or two a day (30 min game is what i mean) and analyze it, figure out your miistakes. Playing every single second of the day will not get you better, it will only make you worse and kill your confidence. Think about it, you just played 5 games back to back now your about to start your 6th game against someone who is just about to start their first game today meaning they have more energy than you. When you go to tournaments you don't play 6 games in a row, they spread it out through the weekend, 2 games a day usually.... so why are you playing 6 games a day??? now if you talking about blitz and bullet then thats another story, but as far as standard games go, you shouldnt be playing 6 frickin games a day, you should study more than you play that way you can put your new knowledge to test every game and LEARN more about your style. I rest my case.

Thanks for the advice guys, even from tigerprowl. Yes I may be retarded, but lets face it, could be worse, I could be a wannabe grandmaster. Thanks for the deep analysis of my game. You only confirmed that I sucked. What kind of lesson is that?? "Your bishop is caged in"... yeah dude, I can see that, time to move along....

So I'm gonna take a break for a while. I do enjoy playing chess. I'm just not very good at it.Thanks for the response guys though. I only put this post up out of sheer frustration but loads of you guys have come on here with some great advice and encouraging comments. Even tigerprowls comments proved to me that all is not lost, I could be him!

Thanks again, I'll see you all around on the squares sometime.

Once again Trelvin has got this spot on. You've got some very good points. Thanks again!!

Ok, if you come back and want a training game let me know, that would be at least 30 minutes each, as a minimum ! with live commentary on the game and also after analysis.

I will return and that would be amazing, feel free to add me and thank you for your offer, that's very kind!
