Maybe you are just retarded.

Listen up.  You do not say that to a person that sincerely asks for help as to whether they should quit chess.  They even mention that they are on a losing streak.  Saying someone is retarded is bad enough.  In these circumstances?  You should be banned from the forums for some time.

Please, wipe those tears. You are a soft baby.

I have been taking lessons from Aww-rats and my game understanding has improved. Follow what he says in his 1st video and you will see improvement.

I'll give some advices based off a game I've seen:

Study easy openings, continue to use tactics trainer everyday...EVERYDAY. it may not seem like its not going anywhere but check this pic out...

One year of hard work. Remember, set backs are just setups for comebacks. Don't quit.

In one year, I got from the low 800s to my current state. If I would have thrown in the towel every time I doubted my abilities (like after a bad losing streak or some really dumb mistake), I wouldn't have lasted for longer than 2 months.

Bloody hell, trev! Might there be hope for me yet to scale such heights with TT?Frown

You're 1090 in Live-Standard at the moment. That's not bad. I guess 1200 is supposed to be the average, but on this site I think 1200 is above average. I'm 1260 at the moment but I feel like I'm closer to 1350.

You just have to have patience. If you get mad because you lose, then play super aggressive, that's when you make mistakes. Take your time, follow all the principles you know about chess theory, and grind your opponent down. Unless you are a heroic style tactical genius like Morphy or Carlsen, that's your best chance of doing it.

In other words, don't look for victory in the opening unless it falls in your lap. Look for a position from which victory can be attained in the middle or endgame--that is the purpose of an opening.

What do you think?

by all means take a look at my misserable stats if you'd like. I'm just getting worse. The other day i got battered against a guy playing with a 700 rating!!!!!! I practice tactics everyday, play at least three of four games a day when i've got time. I watch videos, read books and magazines, even spent £61 ($100) for a year on this site as a premium member!! I genuinely beleive that even though with all these teaching aids surrounding me, that I just flat out suck at chess.

Take some lessons. A good chess tutor can point out basic problems with your game that you would not realize otherwise. You can get lessons on this site or elsewhere from good tutors. Otherwise you will probably go on making the same mistakes. Anyone can improve with a little coaching.

Take some comfort that no matter how badly you suck, there's always someone who sucks worse.

I started out playing live chess. Still unrated there. Changing to online play really gave me time to analyze and improve. Helped me to relax and enjoy the game. Just my 2 cents.   Best of luck to you.

LoveRug? In front of the fire? :-)

I will let you in on a secret. Of the whole population only a couple percent play chess on the web and in a club. These people are better players than the rest of the world. My guess is that you are in the best 5 percent of all humans. What is the value of moving up to the best 4 percent? Just enjoy it.

Okay so quit.  You don't need anybody elses approval to quit but yours... Unless you just want attention??

Lou-for-you

I did quit for over 30 years. And i will quit again when i get too addicted or need to free up time. It is just a game. A thing to take a break with.

Luvrug, I haven't read the whole thread, but if you are losing against people with 700 ratings, I bet it's either A) you need to be more cautious about avoiding blunders, or B) you're spending too much time trying to recognize tactical patterns, and not enough time understanding the mechanics of the game.

Personally, I think any game under 30 minutes/player could harm you as a beginning chess player, because it teaches you to move without fully considering the position. GM's can play blitz, but that's because they're a lot better so they don't need as much time to play OK. I doubt even they prefer it over standard time.

I'd suggest playing turn-based games where you'll have a day to think about each move, plus a lot more Chess Mentor to understand the mechanics. That's what I'm doing and I'm improving steadily. (My rating hasn't caught up because my recent turn-based games haven't finished yet.)

I've had horrendous losing streaks too, against lower rated opponents too, but its clear why I lost so in that manner, time away from chess, not playing for a long time, it takes a while to get into the smooth running of things, I'm sure in time, with dedication, you will see improvements. It is usually a confidence issue...

Do you not find it ironic that I got your attention by posting on my feed??
