This Site Will Soon Have 20 Million Members !
that's it. i even wonder about baden, mil, and now, you fabio.
Well I'm quite sure that I'm here. Indeed a while ago I was in the bathroom and passed by a mirror where I saw this old fellow with a beard. I looked at him for a few seconds and then I thought to myself yup I've seen him before ( quite often lol ).

How Sharper than a Serpent's Tooth It Is to have one or more chess-playing acquaintances who are skeptical about a website's membership statistics as reported online by said website's managers, employees, or volunteers!!
the bard would approve of the reference.

with all the glitches you are dealing with, are you really here? could it be another bearded man in the mirror?

20 million membership accounts?
I'm sure such numbers, inflated as it maybe, brings some sort of "spanking" comfort to the few.

--- He does talk to me at times, sometimes in German and the word Dummkopf does come up a lot lol.

The problem with the bogus number (20 million) is that half have most likely been inactive for more than a year and a quarter are sock puppet accounts.
I know that when I first joined in 2010 I was here for a few weeks then was gone for over 2 years, came back and the account was still active. I am on other sites (which cannot be named under any circumstances because apparently there is a huge problem with insecurity here on chess.com) that send me an email asking me to log in if I have not been there for more than 6 or 121 months or my account will be deleted. Not that hard to implement and automated system but apparently having so many members is like owning a big truck for certain people.
That would leave, in truth, 5 million. Of those, how many don't even play chess here.

That's a good point raised by Rsava.
Validation of accounts via an automated response system(email) for inactive members.
Had one of those before on my correspondence chess account, at a certain site.

I would rather know how many paid accounts there are, there is little chance any of those are bogus. This running total reminds me of when the pentagon used to release the number of casualites for the enemy during the vietnam war...it was always very suspect.

I know ( because was the webmaster at this other site told us this data on their forums few months ago) that them have about 1.500.000 members.
The users online, never goes over 20-22.000 players.
Here the players online can reach easly 60-70.000.
So if you calculate....
if 1.500.000 of members produce about 20.000 online players, it means that more or less 6.000.000 can produce about 70.000 online players here.
chess.com for me has about 6.000.000 of active users...that is about 30% of the accounts (as i wrote in my last post)
Infact for me have no sense to show total members on homepage, the usefull data are "Players online", "titled online", and "games played"

Petition Chess.com to do this.

Because like so many other ideas that make sense, it will be ignored.
As I said, the big number is needed by some people for similar reasons that a "super sized" pickup truck is needed.

Really the only important thing is that there is enough active members that when you are looking for a live game you can find it without a delay. I have always been able to do that here so i have no complaint on that score.
