I build my way up to 1800 on tactics trainer.. now I log on and I've lost like 160 points because they keep giving me random problems at all ratings levels... I lose 15 points if I get a problem wrong that's 1300 and I get 1 point if I get it right.. then I get a 2000 problem and I'm not getting a huge bonus when I get it right anyway... You get 2-3 wrong and you're already in the hole 30-40 points.. This is insane and idiotic.

Thanks for wasting my time.

You know....

if you never had 'points' you would just enjoy how great the game is.

I feel this site, if they never created a rating system you would've (or at least also the option to only play with no rating system) had fun this wonderful game just like when you sit at a table with your opponent the other side of it and play because it's such a great game..

I've noticed as soon as you build up the rating emediately after it begins to drop again, a crazy fluctuating silliness that were they not there never would have to tolerate it's ridiculous flow of inconsistency, not to mention your mindset wouldn't be worrying about such given they never were, silly points.

I when began here, and I've had other accounts than just this pretty recent one, used to always say that I'd be very happy with only '11' points and never from a win receive more to change it, seriously.

I'm also fed up the ego munchers here.

It isn't so in my case. I have this tendency of closing one account before opening the next, .

A good tendency. The TOS forbid otherwise. But, I guess that is just something you sign off on so that you can get an account up and going.

Although I must say that modern contracts put their TOS requirements on a take it or leave it basis.

No negotiating. This is the deal, baby!

I get why you enjoy tactics and playing, but this a a huge problem with online chess sites.

People become OBSESSED with tactics (and normal) ratings. It means more to them than normal points.

Heck, I don't even KNOW what my tactics rating is, as I know it is probably inaccurate.

Why is your tactics rating so important anyway?

(Ps. Had to make a new thread? Could not have joined in with the 20+ other threads the exact same as this?)

You made an account, logged in, played tactics trainer over and over until you got frustrated. So who is wasting who's time???

You are getting 45% problems wrong... Imagine if in a real game 45% of your moves were wrong. What would be the result? wink.png It is reasonable that getting a problem wrong punishes you much harder than getting one right rewards you.

sounds like you are wasting your own time...aahhh...first world problems.

Just do your tactics right then

The hiring process of the company that I work for, that's an absolute joke.

Just calm down and you'll solve these problems.

On the other hand, the problems should depend on your rating.

If your rating is lower, it will give you more easy tactics and longer target time.

20 years of 1 minute chess did ruin me on tactics. The TT is literally why I joined this site. Nothing like it anywhere else. I actually enjoy it more than a live game.

You payed for a premium membership just for tactic trainer? You can get unlimited tactics for free at chesstempo.

A couple weeks ago I just cracked 2100. Now I'm in the 1200s? I honestly don't remember getting a lobotomy!

Nobody ever does.

This guy sure likes to whine judging by all his threads. The TT works fine. If you don't want to lose 15 on a lowly 1300 rated puzzle, then don't fail it... Duh.

If you lose more than you gain, then how did I gain 592 points yesterday? Hmmm, doesn't seem broken to me.

I guess I dont understand how its not fair. It works a lot like a regular game of chess works. You tread water for a while doing 8 or 10 things in a row that work, but one wrong move, and the game is over. It seems like it makes perfect sense that wrong answers would be penalized very heavily and right answers rewarded only slightly. That seems like a great motivator (if a certain rating is the goal) for getting better.

But in chess, you don't have such short time controls. They should get rid of the timer in tactic trainer.

Why does it even matter?

1. I complexity agree with Lenudan.

2. Well, seeing the VAST MAJORITY of games here are bullet or blitz, then the timing element makes PERFECT sense for chess.com

I hate a thing that while playing a bullet I have more time and suddenly from 54 sec my time became 20 sec while his time became 25 to 30 sec
