IMO, the comments section is a joke because of all of the people fighting to get on the first page. But the tactics trainer is definitely not a joke. Trying to get first page is a joke.

Over at chesstempo.com, you can play unlimited tactics for free. Maybe chess.com should consider the same and give free members unlimited access to tactic trainer.

In all seriousness, I think you're right. It locks you in this rabbit hole you can't get out of. I've had easier goddamn times getting up from Blackjack in Vegas then stopping the damn tactics trainer. I have never had the same problem with other tactics apps. I think I know why. Notice how they all start. A sharp "pop" or "Click" sound as the opponent captures a piece or moves into position. Now it's your turn. The clock is running. The pieces move so fast. I think it's the speed that ramps you up, that fast paced, rhythmic design that shoves you from one to another. "Just one more, just one more, just one more, just one more"

If you don't want to play against people, just play against a chess engine that has different settings.
I you think everyone is using engines, just keep to your friends.
This site is pretty good at kicking off engine cheats, at least in the tournaments. You can back through a finished game, and see if your opponent consistently played engine moves, by comparison.
Get a bunch of online friends you get to trust, and play real person-to-person chess.
If you think you're a champ, join a local club and play on the board.
I'm afraid your not a very good troll. Just a wanna be one. To become a good troll, you need to watch and learn from the masters. As you already think your a master, I think you'd be better sticking to chess rather then trolling.
