Thoughts From Cheater_1

Hello all. Not sure how I'll be treated here, but just thought I needed to spill my guts after over a decade of pulling the wool over many people's eyes, and why I did it. I'll detail my obsession with cheating at chess from its online infancy in the early to mid 90s, to cheating some real life GMs, to actually cheating at OTB tourneys and getting away with it. It all started in 1995................

When I first discovered online chess (maybe 1995?) I played for real. Cheating never entered my mind. I played legitimately for a few months until I started to lose on a regular basis. I then discovered a great chess site on Excite called Classic Games by TEN. It had nice graphics (for the time) and a handful of players. I had a chess game for the Gameboy called The Chessmaster that I played regularly and got the bright idea to see if I could switch back and forth from the internet to the Gameboy--waiting until the person made their move, inputting that into Gameboy, and then making that "perfect" move back on the internet. It was time consuming and required a great deal of dexterity, so I couldn't play quick games. But, seeing that internet chess was new and cheating was unheard of, cheating was never brought up. And so it went for months, me and my Chessmaster on Gameboy winning game after game. In fact, in the 1000s of games I played in the early days, I NEVER LOST ONCE. I felt like Bobby Fischer. I was addicted.........

That is to say, Chessmaster on Gameboy never lost.

So, looking back after all these years, do you feel that it was time well spent? Better than actually making an effort to become a decent chess player?

His story is complete rubbish. I remember 1995, and Chessmaster on the gameboy was too weak then to beat average class players. Heck, 12 years later, it's only up to 1850 ELO.

Go figure... a cheater who likes to make up things!

It's a matter of pride. It's easy to spot cheaters online, those error-free games, a person that you have been playing for a while suddenly becomes "invincible", someone with a record of 145-0 with most of his opponents rated over 1900, the list goes on and on. I just never play those people again.

Personally i feel that anyone who cheats is a complete LOSER, what kind of pleasure do you get by knowing the record you have is not legitimate. If you werent so lazy and worthless, and spent a little time trying to improve your chess you may actually become pretty good. All things considered we all have to answer for our actions one day, and this type of behaviour i hope is worth it when you have to answer to the big guy.

In response to likesforests: DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU SPOUT LIES. Chessmaster, on beginner level, may have been ELO 1850. However, I played it using infinite time and forced my move when I needed to. Rest assured, it was UNMATEABLE by a human in a 15 minute game. I do so hope you people just listen to my story of a man who went to extraordinary lengths to be, perhaps, the world's greatest chess cheater. Also, you can call me all the names you want, I know what I did was wrong, but just don't make up lies that can't be substantiated like CM was 1850 (that comment makes me think I'm dealing with absolute dolts). Anyway, where was I? As the mid 90s wore on, I had dozens of screen names, and yes, I actually played FOR REAL using several names and got a quite decent rating. I have been playing REAL chess since a was 10.....I'm in my early 40s now. I belonged to the USCF and know how to play chess. I wanted to expand my experience. I love role playing and "adopted" several real-life GMs as who I was when playing online chess. In the early days, hundreds of people thought they were actually playing a real live GM when they played Gameboy Chessmaster. I actually BECAME them, learned about their personal lives, their professional lives, etc. Then I created the screen name cheater_1 and  decided to let the cat out of the bag. I was growing bored winning game after game so I let the general public know how to cheat and pad their scores. Cheater_1 (the nastiest, most vile player ever to play chess. I said many things which I now regret--sorry people out there) was atop the TEN leader board with a rating of 5000 and no one was close for the last year, but not for long. Almost overnight I (gameboy) began losing games. Months later I was losing more than I was winning and people had padded their scores (having many accounts and transferring points to the main one by resigning) way beyond mine. Cheating had taken hold. I smiled to myself. Intent on winning again, I set my sights on purchasing Chessmaster 6000...........

I dont know if all you said is completely true or completely false thats not my call, but in my opinion and im sure you couldnt care less what i have to say but i will say it anyway in my opinion anyone who cheats just to pad their ego is a joke.

Even today Chessmaster on the Nintendo DS is only ~1850 ELO at its highest level. That can be substantiated by visiting the Ubisoft webpage. And the Nintendo DS is much more powerful than the original Nintendo Gameboy. The Chessmaster on Gameboy in 1995 could not be stronger than 1450 ELO on its highest level. I'm not sure of its exact ELO rating but I know an average club player could beat it consistently at G/15.

You're not very convincing, so on the Troll-O-Meeter I give you 2/10 stars. I will no longer track this thread since what trolls (and cheaters) crave is attention. Wink

I think that would be more like a punishment to those of us who play an honest game, and are proud of what we have accomplished. You will never totally eliminate cheating, the only thing you can do is refuse to play them again and one day the cheaters will have no one to play and will have to find something else to make them feel more important then they really are.

LeviAJones

no, you're lying. chessmaster for gameboy was not very strong. the current ds version plays at 1850 with no time limits

edit: the story is so cheesy and obviously made up. i shouldnt have had to even bring up the rating.

Someone who is a confessed cheater is also a liar?!  Imagine that?!  LOL

Do I hear a exmember of the good old blackjack team here. Cheating is a poor way to win even at my low rateing I wouldn't think of it.

I second that.

hay! I won against it! today, 10min ago! Record, hardest and unlimited time; 14 loses 2draw 1win (yah!). Had to try a game against it! Haven't touched that game-boy in ages. I don't believe its play ability could be mistaken for a GM tho...

That's a dumb conclusion , the two things have got nothing to do with each other. There was a link I saw of a webpage that gives a cheater's account of why he cheated and wahct he was thinking at the time . I thought it was an interesting read.

As the 90s came to a close, I was thoroughly addicted to cheating at chess, as well as playing legit games. I had spent thousands on upgrading my computer and owned the most recent version of Chessmaster--but as you will see--even Chessmaster needed to be upgraded to compete with the rampant cheating. There are days where I would wake up before the sun rose, logged onto the internet, played hundreds of games (some legit, some not) and logged off as the sun rose on a new day. I even recruited friends to purposely lose to me in one minute games to prove that I was really a GM who didn't need to cheat to win. I was always one step  ahead of the competition, and probably didn't get mated more than 10 times in a 1000. But I turned my attention to One minute games to address that I was NOT phoney (I was). Working in the IT field, I know many computer savvy people who can write a program for just about anything (that's not my forte). I NEEDED an auto232 program that would play one minute chess games for you, moving the pieces for you as you sit and watched. The popular one minute autoprogram that is used today CHESSBUDDY was born from the early code that myself and my friends wrote back in the day. I created a new name MOCRATES and set about conquering the one minute arena. I did. In two years and tens of thousands of one minute games, I was never mated once. Oh I did lose many games due to glitches, but never a checkmate. My pride and joy was to masquerade as a GM on ICC (internet chess club) for nearly a year WITHOUT being labeled as a CHEAT. I beat some very prominent GMs. Gms are surprisingly weak at games under 10 minutes....just as Maurice Ashley....oops...i didn't say that. Next was my grand plan to cheat at an OTB game. I had some serious work to do..........................
