Thoughts on Blocking People

I block the following:

Trolls (unless I find them funny, like Macer)

Spammers

Iterations of 2QIC

Rematch Crybabies

Abusive in chat

Abusive messages/notes

People I suspect of cheating

People who abandon games

People who offer draws in dead lost positions

People who never resign (in egregious circumstances)

People I get keep getting paired up against in Live even though I want to play other people.  This doesn't happen much (and it isn't their fault), but sometimes I want to play someone new and don't want to be paired with someone repeatedly so I block them to stop it from happening.

What I would like is for my block list to let me add a little note as to why I blocked them so I could undo it if it doesn't need to be permanent.  It could also indicate or remove closed/banned accounts from the block list.

Makes 50% sense but thanks for posting!

Not really understanding your comment, although I take it that it's directed at me.  I think my rationale for blocking is quite reasonable and it seems like it would be difficult for you to ascertain who possesses those characteristics you listed

You realized huh?

Well, it pretty lousy trolling but I won't block you .  You give good advice in lots of other forums

Yes. Preggo got the award for best overall poster on chess.com at Best on Chess.com. He is truly the best.

Well. I think slight trolling is the best. That way the victim doesn't realize it.

Which 50% makes sense and which doesn't?

In bold are the ones that do not make sense. And yes I think that feature would be appreciated where you could add notes

Trolls

Trolls are always funny. If they are not funny then I won't call them trolls. But I've seen many people who take things seriously. Actually, trolls never mean it when they insult you. They are actually trying to be funny. Take things lightly. Why do people hate trolls? It's always good to have an entertainer in the middle of a heated argument.

Rematch crybabies:

There's nothing wrong in asking for a rematch. From my personal experience, people who ask for rematches always give a tougher fight in the second game. Some of them have even defeated me. When someone asks you for a rematch it's clear that they want to defeat you. Naturally, they'll be more careful with their moves and will give you a tougher fight.

People who offer draws in dead lost positions:

Yeah it's always funny to see people offering draw in lost positions. But why do you block them? Is that a crime? You could just decline the offer and continue playing.

People who never resign:

IMO, it is good to play till the end. Anything can happen. If you are lucky, your opponent might make the stupidest move or might even get disconnected when there's a mate in one. I've seen a lot of people winning in this way. I usually resign when I'm losing. But sometimes I have played till the end. And in some of those games a single blunder from my opponent was enough for me to win the game. Yeah it could be frustrating to play against a person who never resigns. But I think that's not a valid reason for blocking someone. Just enjoy tormenting your opponent. wink.png

Oh and about the draw thing. There is now a button which automatically declines all draws for a single game if you wish

There are so many people on chess.com, I doubt you'll notice anything different blocking a few.

Blocking someone is fine if you have a good reason. I tend to block people if they accuse me of using a computer.

Yes. Especially when someone is irritating.

I have 2 types of bans:

Permaban

Tempban

you should add autoban to your repertoire to be a more complete banner.

never mess with a banner
