Thoughts on Blocking People

Not trying to cause a row here, but I remember once (when games stopped working one day or something like that) you started swearing at staff members about how annoyed you were.

This was posted in general chess discussion.

I asked you to calm down and stop swearing when you had played so many games for free, and that just because one out of 100 FREE games didn't work properly, you shouldn't be so rude to the staff.

I was blocked by yourself and latter told by yourself that I was loud mouthed and obnoxious, or something along those lines.

So add "people who disagree with me" to your list.

I usually only block people once I've been blocked or people who I felt where unreasonable in a thread and I worry they will post rude comments on my status. If they request an unblock that's totally fine with me.

I also block *some* users in games, most people who are rude (I.e swearing) in games and people (in blitz 5min+ and in rapid) let the clock run out. Well I often do, but not always.

I go through my blocked list sometimes, and unblock anyone I can't remember blocking, anyone who has unblocked me, or anyone who has either apologised to me or anyone who I was unreasonable towards.

In 7 years of playing on chess.com, I have close to 60 people on my block list. Generally for insulting in game messages, spamming draw offers, game abandonment or engine use.

i have only 3

one of them was blocked for personal attacks, one was blocked for abuse, trolling etc. and the last one for blocking me! God knows why

Trolls:

Trolls are always funny. If they are not funny then I won't call them trolls. But I've seen many people who take things seriously. Actually, trolls never mean it when they insult you. They are actually trying to be funny. Take things lightly. Why do people hate trolls? It's always good to have an entertainer in the middle of a heated argument.

Rematch crybabies:

There's nothing wrong in asking for a rematch. From my personal experience, people who ask for rematches always give a tougher fight in the second game. Some of them have even defeated me. When someone asks you for a rematch it's clear that they want to defeat you. Naturally, they'll be more careful with their moves and will give you a tougher fight.

People who offer draws in dead lost positions:

Yeah it's always funny to see people offering draw in lost positions. But why do you block them? Is that a crime? You could just decline the offer and continue playing.

People who never resign:

IMO, it is good to play till the end. Anything can happen. If you are lucky, your opponent might make the stupidest move or might even get disconnected when there's a mate in one. I've seen a lot of people winning in this way. I usually resign when I'm losing. But sometimes I have played till the end. And in some of those games a single blunder from my opponent was enough for me to win the game. Yeah it could be frustrating to play against a person who never resigns. But I think that's not a valid reason for blocking someone. Just enjoy tormenting your opponent.

if ye guys ever take me seriously, congrats to me! I am the greatest troll on chess.com!

Sorry but I think you are an entry level troll.

Blocking someone is fine if you have a good reason. I tend to block people if they accuse me of using a computer.

Makes 100% sense

True but it highly depends who you block. If you block some guy who has 0 points (hasn't posted anything in the forums) nothing will happen. If you block someone as active as Preggo the number of any great posts you read will go down a lot.

Yes. Especially when someone is irritating.

I have 2 types of bans:

Permaban

Tempban

you should add autoban to your repertoire to be a more complete banner.

lol

Understandable. It is a free site. It only makes sense to complain so erratically if you are a paying member
