I've always doubted the feasability of three-player chess. It seemed to me that it would be natural for two players to gang up on the third.
On the other hand maybe there are mechanisms to prevent that.
Anyway, I've never played, so what do I know? LOL

Four-player chess is really cool (and can be teamed up so 2 vs. 2). It's a little more sane and little more like normal chess.

There was a seasonal store in our mall that sold hand carved wooden whatevers. A large section of their inventory was chess boards, and most of those were 3 and 4 player. The pieces were fantastic, though! I wish I had a few hundred dollars then, or that they'd come back soon.

I saw a hex chess board with just 2 players. It was interesting. They had light, medium, and dark squares. Maybe bishops can change color on the medium squares?
Oops, I didn't mean sqaures. The squares were hex shaped, too.
