threefold repetition rule

Hi all, I'd like get an experts opinion on the fact that the game above was drawn using the threefold repetition rule. From my understanding of the rule, the board position has to be the same, including all piece positions.

In the game I leveraged the pinwheel effect to wipe out white's pawns, but half way through the game was automatically  drawn.  Was this just a bug or am I misunderstanding the rule?

Well it is definitely not drawn by 3 move repetition.  I looked at your profile though and cannot see the game.  Was it on this site?

Metastable

It does not look like threefold repetition to me.

Rasparovov

Won't happen in a OTB game :)

Thank you

No, this was not on this site, it was in the chesstime app on android phone.  I want to email the developer to ask them to address the bug, but wanted to make sure I am not mistaken.

3-fold repetition is not an automatic draw (on chess.com and OTB) anyway... bug maybe.

repetition has to be claimed before the final repetition though programmes like fritz will just declare it a draw. this is not a repetition. the position changed every move. hope this helps.

Thank you all, much appriciated.

Question.  Is chess.com usable from a mobile device?  Cross platform?

ivandh

There is a chess.com app for android and iphone/pad.

Lannar

when I try to log in with my phone, it tells me "you must set up a password at Chess.com."

any ideas?

I don't have a smartphone so I can't help. Check the FAQs or the Help & Support forum.

Stop using that ap.  That's not a draw.

I agree with Vecht... the developer probably didn't know what he was doing, just like all of the photographers who take photos of chess sets set up with a black square in the lower right-hand corner.

The position did not repeat 3 times. Each time a pawn/piece was taken so the position changed. It isn't a draw.

Lannar

Thanks everyone, I emailed the developer and the agreed it is incorrect and will be updating the app.

MrEdCollins

Good work.  I don't have that phone or app, but thanks for letting them know!
