Tilt and Opponent Traps

Hi All.

This will probably just come across as a rant to those of you who are superior to me in at chess; because it is just that, I suppose. I have been up to 1150 rapid which I was incredibly proud of. I did lessons and purely focused on getting the basics down. I have, however, been on two or three tilts during my short chess career which once again sees me battling to get out of triple digits.

I know this is entirely a 'me' problem, I know I'm a better chess player than my rating says; I just can't seem to break out of the tilt/addiction problem. Does anyone have any anecdotes to share on how to break this cycle?

My other thing that I struggle with is my opponent playing traps. It seems that I run into tonnes of opening traps and it feels incredibly cheap to lose this way. I know that if I studied more opening lines and analysed games more in depth I'd eventually get to grips with them and be able to punish them, but the sheer number of them is very daunting.

Basically, any advice on how to overcome tilt issues and how to deal with new traps would be much appreciated. But above all, thanks for reading and letting me get this off my chest. I know I will make it to 1150 and beyond when I can knuckle down and stop letting this game get to me so much.

Tilt= you losing and wanting to gain the elo back so you play fast and lose.

You should take a deep breath, and slow down and try to not look at your rating and looking at other things to not be distracted and always play when you are sure that you won’t get disturbed. I got distrubed once and lost horibly so have 100% focus. For traps just don’t be greedy or don’t protect the pawn you won and you’ll be winning.
