Time constraints and vacation

True Donna, but I still think it is bad form to call someone "stupid" because they don't think to look at the time constraints before they accept a game.

Hmm...rooperi, ok.  I didn't know you could play the same person in more than one game at a time and I didn't have any seeks out.  I think I have put out maybe 2 seeks since I have been here.

DPenn

I would never time out on purpose but that's just me.  I have done it one other time when the time frame was short like this time and I didn't realize I had run out of time.  I have had people time out when they are playing against me because I am winning but those kinds of games aren't any fun.

Loomis, what do you think would be the reason for someone to put a 24 hour time constraint on ONLY CERTAIN GAMES and then go on vacation? I really would like to find the simple answer here.

I'm not a mind reader, so I don't know someone's reason for their chosen time constraint. But if it was put in an open seek, I can be pretty sure that it wasn't targeted at a certain player that he thought would be likely to time out in that time control.

His going on vacation doesn't make it any more likely that you will time out, so I really don't see what your issue is with him deciding to take vacation at this time.

DPenn

So I don't have to put out an open seek to be the receiver of one?  I usually just play friends.

DPenn, I don't know how you got involved in this game, since you didn't say in any of your posts. Did this person directly invite you? Did you go to the Open Seeks page and click one of the games?

What would you call it then?? Irresponsible to say the very least.

DPenn

Yes.  I did not have a seek out so I am assuming they directly invited me.  I did not know this person but I saw that his rating was around mine and since I have been playing more chess lately, decided to accept the game.  I wish now that I would not have.

Donna, we are talking about computer chess here not the Domesday Button...

Yes we are talking about online chess here and so far all I have seen you and writch do is accuse this guy of being unethical because some of his opponents have timed out??

Why does it matter to you if he has gone on vacation it just means he will make his move when he comes back online!!

Yes I have my games on vacation because I was offline early last night and I have been out all day today is that a crime??

I spend almost 18 hours a day on this site and sometimes don't go offline all night so am I not allowed to have a break??

I have 1 game which is 2 days per move and all the rest are 3-14 days per move

blackfirestorm

What no reply to that?? Or is it simply because it is not against site rules that I can use my vacation to very occasionally take a break???

blackfirestorm

Do you see this game?? this game is an unrated friendly which is between me and my friend and the time left is 34 hours. I only put vacation on last night (not like it is ANY of your business)

 _MainStreet_(2247) YO! - unrated 14 34 hours Vacation...

There is no doubt that vacation abuse exists.

Just today I was in a game where both of us played lots of moves, at about 5 mins a move, or even less, and then as soon as he's clearly lost vacation time comes up. There was friendly chat during the game, but no talk of any imminent trips to the Commores or anything like that. Proof, no, suspicion yeah.

But, it really doesn't bother me that much. I have lots of games going, if he wants to stay away till February, that's also fine. I'm sure by then my rating could also do with a boost by beating a 1800.

Sorry please accept my apologies. Of course and I think everyone sees things like this happening. I am just now trying to defend myself against someone who assumes me to be unethical just because my games are on vacation.

DPenn

Donna, I think he was just trying to show that people do use the vacation option for reasons other than actually going on vacation.

Well, there is going on vacation for the sake of being away from a computer for a while, or for keeping your time from clicking down.

Or maybe vacation from playing chess but still wanting to play in the forums?

I’m just sayin’.

Well see DPenn this to me seems like a deliberate attack because I am posting in the forums while my games are on vacation.

rooperi

Now see what you've done, I just blundered a Queen. Talking here instead of concentrating.
